Vet to Paddle River Thames in Dog Bowl

To raise money for charity, a veterinarian plans to travel down London's River Thames in a giant dog bowl for nine days.

First, magician David Blaine drew worldwide attention by suspending in a glass box over the banks of London’s River Thames. Now celebrity vet Joe Inglis hopes to raise the same kind of attention by paddling the Thames for nine days … in a giant dog bowl.

Inglis, who stars on Britain’s popular TV show “Vets in Practice,” hopes his mini-cruise in the six-foot-wide dog bowl will raise not only attention but money for Hearing Dogs for Deaf People, a service dog charity that celebrates its 25th anniversary this year.

Inglis will begin his voyage on July 2 in Cricklade, hoping to reach Putney – a journey of about 150 miles – by July 11.

Jack, Inglis’s Collie mix, will join him on the journey. “I grew up by the river so I’ve always enjoyed messing about in boats,” Inglis told the Harrow Times. “Jack loves swimming too, which could come in handy if we sink.”

Inglis is making personal appearances across Britain in the weeks leading up to the stunt, which has already drawn media attention from around the world.

“The charity helps so many people and I hope that my Thames challenge will raise awareness, and hopefully provide some funds.”
