The American Kennel Clubs Companion Animal Recovery Canine Support and Relief Fund has received more than $250,000 in donations for Hurricane Katrina pet owners, and has sent teams to meet with volunteer relief workers caring for displaced animals. In addition to sending supplies such as crates, bowls, leashes, collars, fencing, and dog food, the AKC/CAR features a Donations Exchange Database on its website. More than 500 offers of assistance have come through the site, including equipment, foster homes, and transportation for dogs and their owners. People may also make requests for help through the site.
