Under a new bylaw of the city council, citizens of Rome are required to walk their dogs daily, reported the Roman daily Il Messaggero.
Its good to do whatever we can for our animals, who in exchange for a little love fill our existence with their attention, Monica Cirinna, the Rome councilor who sponsored the bylaw, told the paper. The civilization of a city can also be measured by this.
Rome joins the northern Italian city of Turin in requiring dog walks by law. In April, Turin passed a law that would fine pet owners up to $700 if they failed to walk their dog at least three times a week.
The new bylaw also bans the use of round goldfish bowls because they don't provide fish enough oxygen, the Roman newspaper reported.
