Donations Sought for The Barkley House

Barkley House will provide a home-like environment for people and pets requiring long-term treatment.

Donations are sought for The Barkley House at the University of Missouri-Columbia College of Veterinary Medicine.

Barkley House will provide a home-like environment for people and pets requiring long-term treatment, and for pets traveling long distances to the universitys teaching hospital for specialized care, said Marilyn Gaffey, chair of the St. Louis Barkley House Committee.

It will be built just steps from the veterinary teaching hospital, so pets will have immediate access to veterinary care, while staying in a comfortable setting with their owners, Gaffey said. Also, Barkley House provides veterinary students an opportunity to further study the human-animal bond, she said.

The estimated cost for construction of The Barkley House is $2 million, and the timeline for construction depends on the fundraising effort.

To help spread the word on its need for donations, The Barkley House is selling promotional items including T-shirts, leashes and awareness bracelets on its website, The Barkley House.

Information about making a donation is available by calling Greg Jones, director of development, at (888) 850-2357, or Gaffey at (636) 220-6767.
