GlobalPetFinder, a tracking device that uses GPS technology and a two-way wireless system, helps Harrison Ford locate his kidnapped family and dog in the upcoming movie Firewall. The dogs tracking device pinpoints the location of the family and follows their every movement, which Ford can watch on his wireless monitor.
In real life, the 5-ounce device snaps onto the dogs collar or harness to allow owners to create a virtual fence. When the dog goes beyond these boundaries, a text message is sent directly to the owners wireless device, such as a cell phone, PDA or computer. Information is refreshed every three minutes.
GlobalPetFinder also monitors the environmental temperature for each pet. Owners are notified when surrounding temperatures become too hot or cold based on the owners control settings.

A similar device for smaller dogs and cats is currently in the works, scheduled to be released late 2006.
