First Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit, scored the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. Now the Humane Society of the United States Genesis Awards have given the film another prestigious nod.
In a star-studded ceremony, HSUS named the clay-animated film, about two enterprising friends who use wildly imaginative inventions to try to capture a mysterious beast, with the award for Best Animated Film. It was produced by Aardman Animations and DreamWorks Animation. An Unfinished Life, in which a miserable roadside zoo symbolizes a damaged family, won Outstanding Feature Film.
The Genesis Awards, celebrating their 20th year, pay tribute to the major news and entertainment media for producing outstanding works that raise public awareness of animal-protection issues. HSUS honors recipients in a range of categories for highlighting current issues or bringing a fresh perspective to long-standing ones.
Other winners include World News Tonight for Outstanding National News Feature for highlighting multiple animal-related issues, including an elephant cull in Africa; Larry King Live, named Outstanding TV Talk Show for an investigative report on the Chinese dog and cat fur industry; and a CSI episode entitled Unbearable in the Outstanding Dramatic Series category, for a story that exposes the practice of canned hunting.
This years celebrity presenters include David Boreanaz, Linda Blair, Lauren Holly, Charlotte Ross, Amy Smart and Joe Mantegna.
The ceremony was taped at the Beverly Hilton and will air during a two-hour special on Saturday, May 6, on Animal Planet.
