A street-sweeping truck roaring down a Bronx street sucked up a dog and killed her as her owner held the leash. The city Department of Transportation called the death “a rare and unfortunate accident,” The Associated Press reports.

A dog foiled an attempted abduction by attacking a man, police said Saturday. Officials said the victim was walking her dog in Grantham, N.H., at about 11:30 p.m. Thursday when two people in a car approached her.
