A street-sweeping truck roaring down a Bronx street sucked up a dog and killed her as her owner held the leash. The city Department of Transportation called the death “a rare and unfortunate accident,” The Associated Press reports.

Officials said the victim was walking her dog in Grantham, N.H., at about 11:30 p.m. Thursday when two people in a car approached her.
