Lisa and Harry Posin, owners of a 4-year-old Maltese named Olive, recently hosted a benefit that raised $320,000 to support the University of Florida Veterinary Medical Center’s oncology service.

Olive was treated at the center in 2007 for kidney cancer, which involved the removal of one kidney and a portion of her adrenal gland. She subsequently underwent eight chemotherapy treatments and has since regained her strength and normal body functions.

"We fully believe," Harry Posin says, "that due to the severity of Olive's illness and the complex nature of the surgery, had it not been for the skilled oncology team at UF, we would likely have lost Olive on the operating table."

The couple, who live in Boca Raton, also recently established a fund entitled "Olive’s Way." All contributions go to the college to support cancer research programs.
