DogChannel Expert Joins ‘Greatest American Dog’

Allan Reznik is one of three judges on the new CBS dog-and-owner competition show that debuts tonight.

Updated: July 10, 2008, 5 a.m. EDT

Allan Reznik, Editor-at-Large for Dog World and DOG FANCY magazines and DogChannel’s breed and dog show expert, has joined CBS’ new reality-competition show, “Greatest American Dog,” as one of three judges.

The show – think “American Idol” meets “Purina Incredible Dog Challenge” – pits 12 teams of dogs and owners from across the country in weekly challenges that put the owners’ ability to train their dogs to the test.

Each week judges Reznik, Animal Fair editor Wendy Diamond, and dog trainer Victoria Stilwell eliminate one dog and owner. The remaining dog-and-owner team will receive a $250,000 cash prize and the title of Greatest American Dog.

“There is great chemistry among the three judges, and some very engaging dog-and-owner teams competing,” said Reznik in a statement. “The show will be fast-paced and entertaining, but informative as well, with the judges commenting on behavior issues and offering breed-specific advice.”

“Greatest American Dog” premieres tonight, July 10, on CBS. For show times and to meet the contestants, click here.

Reznik will be on DogChannel's message boards Friday, following the show's airing, beginning at 10 a.m. PDT. Visit the forums to chat with him about the latest episode.

I would like to see my white Tibetan Mastiffs featured on the show! I own the only two in the world outside of China. I know that Allan is a TM fancier, so please pass the word along to him! Visit my Snow Lions at www.snowliontibetanmastif- fs.com

I think that Victoria Stilwell is awesome and that anyone who doesn't use positive training methods needs to!! She's really smart when it comes to training dogs and I have learned a lot from her.

I love the dogs and the owners. I think you need to get rid of one of the judges. The so called dog trainer is very opinionated and I have decided not to watch anymore. I don't think she is very smart when it comes to dogs and their owners. I have had dogs for years and would never do anything she has suggested. She is so full of herself she makes the show stupid to watch.

I like this show, but think sometimes the judges act self righteous. The girl with the border collie who used a band to make her dog look like he was snarling, was repeatedly told she was inhumane. While not great, this hardly rises to "inhumame."
