Genesis Awards Celebrate Dog-Friendly Media

“Year of the Dog,” starring Molly Shannon, is among several nominees that spotlight animal issues.

The Human Society of the Unites States’ 22nd annual Genesis Awards, which recognize news and entertainment media that spotlights animal protection issues, will be held March 29 at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles.

Best Feature nominees include “Year of the Dog.” The film stars Molly Shannon as a secretary whose life changes in unexpected ways after her beloved dog dies.

Other popular Genesis nominees include “Arctic Tale,” which focuses on polar bears and walruses, and “Sharkwater,” which looks at how sharks are killed to make shark fin soup. In the TV category, CBS earned a record nine nominations.

The usually star-studded event is open to the public. Ticket prices are $300 for general seats, and table prices start at $3,000 for a table of 10. The deadline to purchase tickets and tables is March 24.

Proceeds benefit the HSUS. For more information, click here.
