Shock jock Howard Stern has helped to reunite a snatched Bulldog named Clara with her distraught owner, Jessica Kurland.
The dog was stolen more than a week ago from outside a Midtown Manhattan supermarket.
Stern, the fiancé of Kurland’s friend Beth Ostrosky, had broadcast the story on his Sirius satellite radio show, during which the dog-loving Stern chided Kurland for “stupidly” leaving the dog tied up and unattended on a busy city street. Kurland cried, “This is the biggest mistake of my life. I could have prevented it.”
Rescue Ink, a nonprofit animal rescue organization run by a tattooed band of animal lovers, read about Clara’s story in the New York Post. “We look like a bunch of animals ourselves,” joked rescuer John DePrima to the newspaper. “So we figured the best approach was to get into the neighborhood and make a little noise and rattle a few trees.”
Rescue Ink posted hundreds of fliers, knocked on doors, and quizzed storeowners about the dognapping. A few days later, two anonymous Good Samaritans phoned Kurland, saying they had spotted the dog and took her in.
“We’re just so happy that everything turned out well,” Ostrosky said.
