Veterinary Pet Insurance recently analyzed the names of their 450,000 insured pets and revealed the most popular dog names. The Top 10 are:
Max tops the list for the fifth year in a row for both dogs and cats, according to VPI.
“The continuing popularity of Max is largely due to the fact that it is monosyllabic and simple for people and pets to remember,” said Carol McConnell, DVM, vice president and chief veterinary officer for VPI, “yet easy to distinguish from common commands.”
A few of the names or slight variations thereof are popular baby names as well. The Social Security Administration reports that Jacob is the No. 1 name for boys.
“When people consider their pet an integral part of the family, they are more inclined to choose a human name for it,” McConnnell explained. “The prevalence of pets with human names clearly reflects the growing human-animal bond.”
All of the names appeared on last year’s list, although some shifting occurred. Bella moved up a few notches from fourth to eighth, however Bailey dropped from second place down to ninth.
