Kathleen Turner has issued a public apology to Nicolas Cage over a false claim in her recently published autobiography that Cage stole a Chihuahua during filming of their 1986 film, “Peggy Sue Got Married.”
Turner wrote in her autobiography, “Send Yourself Roses,” “He’d come across a Chihuahua he liked and stuck it in his jacket.”
Cage denied the charge and filed a defamation, libel, and slander suit against Turner, Britain’s Daily Mail, which published an advanced excerpt of the book, as well as the book’s publisher, Headline Publishing Group.
The Daily Mail agreed to remove the article from its website and issue an apology. Headline Publishing Group will include a correction and apology in printed copies of the book.
Simon Smith, Cage’s legal representative in Britain, where the lawsuit was filed, says Cage is “extremely pleased” with the result. Smith says Turner will pay Cage’s legal fees and make a donation to the National Adult Protective Services Foundation, a U.K.-based organization that benefits vulnerable adults.
