The Oakland Athletics baseball team will host the Oakland A’s Dog Day at McAfee Coliseum in Oakland, Calif., on Thurs., Aug. 2, 2007, during a game against the Los Angeles Angels.
Fans and their dogs get to watch the action from seats in the dog-friendly Plaza Reserve section. This year’s event includes a pre-game “pup rally” that features pet contests, games and raffle prizes. Each dog in attendance receives a special Oakland A’s bandana and a goody bag.
In attendance at the pre-game festivities will be Oakland A’s third baseman Eric Chavez along with his two Boxers, Hank and Zena.
Tickets for the one-day event are limited to the first 500 people to register at www. oaklandathletics.com. The Plaza Reserve tickets are $15 for fans with dogs.
Five dollars of each ticket will go to Dogs4Diabetics, a nonprofit organization that provides medical-alert assistance dogs to people with insulin-dependent type-1 diabetes.
Dogs4Diabetics dogs can identify and alert owners of subtle scent changes in a diabetic’s body chemistry that indicate low blood glucose, a potentially deadly condition.
