People should not own any pet when they knew that they are too busy for the pet. it is too cruelty to the animals. they are life too - have feeling just as any life! I wish people would have enough sense about other life beside themselves. the world will be much better place to live by and peaceful.

I think this article is great and gives ideas to those who are very busy and tend to ignore the dog but really don't mean to. My maltese loves sitting by me when watching tv or I play with him while watching tv or doing something else around the house. I just pick up his toy and throw it and he chases it. He also sleeps in my room and sometimes on my bed. The weekends is for us to go in the car and go shopping or anywhere else. He loves car rides.

while your watching play tug a war or fetch the toy or ball with your dog. Hes having a blast and you can still watch your favorite show on T.V.

All of your suggestions sound great, sometimes I don't have time to pay those extra minutes with my dog so I invite her best friend over and they play for long periods of time and then when her friend goes home my dog is tired and she's ready for a nap.

This article is great. I spend most of my time, when I'm not at work with my six dogs and they are always getting petted and loved on. Some people may think with 6 it's hard to divide time but it's not. I let them choose who wants to be in my lap and each gets as long as they want and I get all that love. They go with me anywhere I can take them.I have one that always travels with me and she is an excellent traveling companion.

what to do when a dog keeps barking and sometimes bites when anyone is near.

Lab-owning neighbour. Why don't you offer to take the dog for a walk when you are walking yours? That might be a most effective way of making your point and do something nice for the lab at the same time! Teaching by example is often the most effective!

some people get dogs and then the new wears off and they take them for granted ---same with children alot are left on their own --as a nation we have lost that loving feeling

Why would someone get a dog and then not do these things? Reminds me of my boss in Korea who had his dogs just for the status symbol! I showed him, trained them all in english so they would only listen to me.:)

Try taking your dog to obed. school. Even if you have done the basics try a second time, just to spend time with your dog and reenforce what she learned the first time around. Also set a certain time aside each day to spend time with your dog, you'd be surprised how they look forward to this time each day.

another fun thing to do with the dogs is to hide treats around the house and have them "find" them. It awakens another sense in them

We have 2 dogs and I make it a point to spend time with them. I toss toys around for them to bring back to me and on request they drop and I toss again. Its fun being it is cold or rainy out side they get some exersize too. And I have a tread mill for the bigger dog she needs to shed a few pounds and so do I Pat

The article was great,I have 5 dogs, all rescues and they all love to go with my husband and I when we run erands, and belive it or not they know when its thier turns to go I take 2 at a time cause they are big then the other 3 go together cause they are small. They literally pout when we cant take them. They especially love the bank and electric co. cause they give treats lol.All my dogs except one come from horrible abuse and it fills my heart with such joy that I am able to make a difference in these lovable creatures lives, you can honestly see love radiate from these dogs.

This article points out a real problem and offers sensible solutions. I don't know why people get dogs and then pretend that the dog has no needs. I hope that the message gets to the right people. I pray every day, when I say grace, for animals. I will add a special prayer for lonely animals. I believe that prayer changes reality. Dogs and all animals need us to remember them.

Most folks do not realize it, but most home stores and hardware stores (like Lowes, Home Depot, etc ) as well as many non-food related retail stores DO INDEED ALLOW DOGS! Call ahead to make sure, but I take my dogs with me all the time to places like this. You are not limited to Petsmart. Only grocery stores and restaraunts (places that serve/sell food) are required by law to abide by certain health codes. Most banks, pharmacies, and pet stores will actually give your dog a treat. So do not assume that your four legged friend is only welcome at the vet or the park. TAKE THEM WITH YOU. Even if you cannot take them IN the store, and as long as it is not HOT in the car, there is no reason they cannot wait in the car for 5 minutes while you pick up milk. Just be careful not to risk heat stroke when the weather is

Also, TALK TO THEM. Everyday, all day ... tell them your troubles, bitch about your boss, vent, ask what color dress to wear ... they KNOW when you are talking TO THEM and will feel more a part of your life just because you are interacting. If your child were a mute and could not respond to you, would you ignore them and never speak? Of course not. Talk to your pets.
