I have dog allergies, and I also have a shih tzu. She doesn't bother mine or my husband's allergies at all. She doesn't shed either, which is great. My mom has a maltipoo (as the article mentioned poodle & maltese) and she doesn't bother my allergies either.

I have been in Wheatens for 18 years and find them to be tolerated by many allergy sufferers. One has to consider what allergens come in on the coat, from dust and the outdoors. Good household hygiene is important, as always.

ShihTzus and other hair (rather than fur) coated breeds, not prone to shedding, are tolerated in most cases. We encourage visits with the breed before deciding what might
work.

We have a Havanese. Before purchasing our furkid, we spent 3 hours at the breeders house. At the time, she had 5 adult dogs and 13 pups (3 different litters). My allergies were non-existent during our visit. We also fell in love with one little guy and put a down payment to hold him until he was old enough to bring home. The Havanese can be pricey, but worth EVERY penny and more!!!

I have suffered from allergies to dogs all my life. Hives, breathing issues, and more but in the last 5 years I have found I can live happily with West Highland, Cairn and Wheaten terriers. Also the smaller the dog, the less the dander and the easier to bath occasionally to remove it. Petfinder.com is a great place to get the purebreeds I need to be sure about allergic reactions. Rescued 3 Westies and a Lhasa Apso so far! Love them all.

You overlooked Bichon Frise! Minimal dander because they don't shed at all!

I have 2 Tibetan Terriers and have never had a problem with my allergies. Also have a Papillon, which is a non-allergic dog. But my male Tibetan Terrier is my favorite dog personality-wise! I call him a "poet's dog"; very sensitive like a human.

Just wondering if you had heard of the Tibetan Terrier (not true terrier) with hair for a coat? Non-shedding basically and no real odour and little to no dander??

I have had both Collie Rough's and Collie Smooths and find they are not affected by allergies whereas my German Shepherd had skin & ear problems which was ongoing throughout her whole life.

I thought that terriers with wiry coats aren't good for allergies. Their coats have oils in them that can trigger allergies. People should spend time in someone's house with a type of dog you are interested
in.
Check out Petfinder.com for all types of breeds.
