Just first of all think about this.... i volunteer at a local animal shelter and id have to say if they offered me a job to be an officer i would DECLINE IT! not only do these people work out on the field, but they also are the ones, who walk some animals to their death. I wanted to be a ACO before, but now ive seen the dirty part of that job, and never would i wanna play god to many innocent dogs and cats....

What i would like to know is the requirements for becoming an officer for ASPCA. I have wanted to work for them since i can remember i also remember seeing the show think I need to help those poor animals. An in all honesty the pay is negotiable to me So please tell me what steps do I take to do this.

To those of you who aren't adults yet...stay in school, go volunteer at a humane society orwork as a vet assistant or shelter, etc. Go to college and study criminal justice, take a. NACA certification class then pursue a career as an ACO. If you think it's all glory and fame you're wrong. It's difficult work and dirty and smelly at times. More than likely you will have to carry a gun and sometimes you may have to euthanize an animal. Learn all you can about the the job by talking to an ACO in your area before you make up your mind on this journey. Not for the faint of heart.. good luck!

This is a good discription on being an animal control officer but I think what some people are looking for is the requirements such as, college degrees and what kind of classes you would need to take. Thats what I'm trying to find and most of the websites say the same thing. Kind of makes it hard to right a research paper haha. ^.^

Hello My Name is Lisa I want to be animal control officer. I am vouleetering in shelter right now. Wild cats seem to like me they come right up to me without a fight. they have feelings too and yes they do get scared but if they see a warm face like mine someone who looks different from them then they are not so scared. I am 47 years old I know that is getting up there but I love animals so much and would like to do curelty investations on people who hurt animals and leave them to die they is not fair! I need some help on what to do with the rest of my life and I think I want it to be with animals and I can finsih writing my book too. I have had all sort of animals growing up even a Donkey as a pet. Starving an animal to death that is not cool. They give so much love you try living the way they do maybe you will be more understanding and caring. How would you like it if you had no food no water no love you cant survive. Treat aniamls with respect they will treat you respect.

I am very interested in becoming an Animal Control Officer. I'm 22 but I have no idea where to start. I was going to take some criminal justice courses to get a knowledge of the laws. I was told that to become an ACO I would need a referal or reference from a cop. I don't know if thats true. If someone could help me out that would be great!

If you are interested in becoming an animal control officer(ACO), go and talk with your local police agency. Most ACO's have to carry a gun in the western states and have to know local laws/ordinances.
