Surfing dogs raise funds for Good Neighbor Council at Loews Coronado Bay Resort.

Imperial Beach, Calif., residents and beach-goers will be seeing a wave of surfing dogs and spectators on Aug. 18, 2007, as the Loews Coronado Bay Resort hosts their second annual Loews Surf Dog Competition.

Stemming from the resort’s Su’ruff Camp package that debuted in January 2006, the surf competition gives dogs and their owners an opportunity to show off their skills on the waves while contributing to the Good Neighbor Council, a group of volunteers who donate their time to help raise money for various nonprofit organizations including Modest Needs and PAWS of Coronado.

This fun-filled day at the beach is free to spectators who want to get a glimpse of the action and check out the latest in dog couture that will be featured at the dog fashion show. The competition begins at 9 a.m. with an optional surfing lesson for less experienced dogs and ends at 3 p.m. with an awards ceremony to honor the first, second, and third place winners.

To register for the competition or to obtain more information, visit www.loewssurfdog.blogspot.com or call (619) 424-4000 ext. 6696.

I had no idea that dogs and their humans entered into this type of contest. It's so awesome.
