“Bridget Jones’s Diary” screenwriter Andrew Davies says he was attacked during what he described as a “dog rage” confrontation last week at a British park.
Davies, who is 71, was walking his rescue dog Daisy when the “timid” dog was confronted by two Staffordshire Bull Terriers.
The Emmy award-winning screenwriter told the Birmingham (U.K.) Post that he “drove one of them off. I shouted ‘Go on! Get out of it!’ and sort of aimed a kick at it, which was never really meant to connect, and didn’t. The dog got the message and went off.”
“But his owner shouted, ‘Don’t you [expletive] touch my dog!’ and ran up and head-butted me and punched me in the eye.”
“It knocked me clean off my feet,” Davies says. “He was a big guy and I am quite little. I thought I was doing this guy a favor because he couldn’t control his dogs.”
A spokesperson for the Warwickshire Police said they are seeking a man in his early 20s in connection with the incident.
