Since 1999, the Iams Home for the Holidays adoption drive, organized by the Helen Woodward Animal Center in San Diego County, Calif., has joined animal shelters across the country in a common goal: Help homeless dogs and cats find loving homes in time for the holidays. In 2005, the event placed its 1 millionth pet in a good home. This year, event organizers hope to unite 350,000 cats and dogs with loving families.

The adoption event kicked off on November 5 and will run through January 3, 2008. More than 2,750 animal shelters have signed up to participate in the 2007 event, including facilities in all 50 states and shelters in 14 other countries, such as Australia, Brazil, Canada, India, and Puerto Rico. Individual participating shelters will hold adoption events throughout the holiday season. To find a shelter near you, visit the Home 4 the Holidays website.

Event organizers encourage pet lovers to consider giving a new home to an orphaned cat or dog. The Iams Home 4 the Holidays drive gives shelters tools to match the needs of cats and dogs with the perfect families.
