Tim Gunn got ready for the start of the fourth season of “Project Runway” last week in an unlikely but fitting way: hosting a dog fashion show for charity in New York City.
Project Ruffway was a benefit for Stray from the Heart, an organization that rescues strays dogs, and featured designer dog clothes from top names like Nicole Miller and Juicy Couture.
Gunn warned the audience that it would be a pun-filled night, saying, “Let’s give a round of — I promised I’d say this — apaws!”
Recently adopted dogs strutted their stuff in “Project Runway”-worthy categories like eveningwear, weekend, resort, and “ruff and tumble.”
And since these “muttels” had no formal runway training, they got some high-profile help in celebrity escorts Bobby Kennedy III, “The Bachelor” star Lorenzo Borghese, and photographer Patrick McMullan.
Gunn, who is also the chair of the department of fashion design at Parsons the New School for Design, awarded the best-dressed title to Rusty, a Jack Russell Terrier mix in a pale green seersucker hoodie.
