Jimmy Baltimore, MD 3/8/2012 7:09:43 PM I just lost my chessie. Just short of 14 yrs. very dependable companion and pet. Takes them a few years to get cuddly with you. They smile when you greet them after a long day. Its precious. Very well behaved if you do it right, with love and common sense. Softest, sweetest eyes that show their love once they know your the master. They want and need amaster. They walk and act proud when they know your leading them, are with them, around them and teaching them. They learn things os quick. My 8 yr old son talk Jed most of his house hold normal stuff. Great dog. Miss him soooooooo much.
Paulette Oswego, NY 12/11/2011 8:20:22 AM If your dog doesn't take to the leash when you put it on occassionaly, try letting her live with it all the time. (only when you're home.) Leash on all the time, she'll get used to it. It becomes part of her body. Keep an eye on her so she doesn't get "stuck"anywhere. Lots of treats or lovig when you pick itup.
Robin Charleston, SC 1/29/2009 5:41:52 AM My puppy is 5/6 months old. She hates a leash. I try and try, but when I put one on her she will sit down or just stand and refuse to move. A halter works a little better...any ideas on how to improve this behavior.
Laurie Waukesha, WI 1/26/2009 9:16:29 AM We have a seven year old GSP named Elsa. She is a dream dog if ever there was one. Elsa has had intense obedience training for the first 3 yrs. and still enjoys her sessions. I have never had to punish or yell at her for bad behavior. She has had Addison's disease since she was 5 yrs. You wouldn't know except toward the end of the month when her meds are due; she slows down. She is everything I was looking for in a companion, and more.

Peggy Cape Coral, FL 11/6/2008 2:43:02 AM We have a pointer that is 12 years old. When our daughter had her son, we told Sammy that the baby was his and he had to watch him. Then 2 years later she had another boy. Sammy would watch the boys all the time. He would lay with his head on their legs or tummy so that they would roll off the bed when I was changing their diapers. Sammy would stay by their sides whenever we had them outside. We couldn't ask for a better pet than Sammy. He still wants to be with kids and play with them. He loves all kids.

caren manville, NJ 8/28/2006 4:43:29 PM We just adopted a German Shorthair Pointer Mix approx. 3 weeks ago from a kill farm. He is 8 months and was never trained. It is very evident how intelligent he is but find it fascinating after reading the article that my dog hates the rain. The first time I walked him in the rain, he would not leave beneath the umbrella! He absolutely hated the wet rain.
Keira Waltham, MA 7/16/2006 10:07:00 AM What if you own cats? Are these dogs good with cats? My Husband and I just bought our very first home and we have two girls ages 6 & 8 who are very active. We also have 2 cats a 2 year old mainecoon and a 6 month old bengal kitten who are extremely active and leash trained as well as 2 Ragdolls ages 3 & 4 both also leash trained but onluy active n the warmer whether and a shy siamese recue cat of 2 years of age. Our new home is HUGE witha HUGE Yard and the house itself is very big with a tek deck for no worrying about splinters and a HUGE shed I plan to turn into a triple shed for the animals and heat it during the winter and add large windows for their peace of mind from the children during the winter months and a cudl De Sac street with other dogs and cats and children liing there as well. Is this a good breed to consider?
