On the Male, Why don't they just perform a vasectomy? Wouldn't it help the dog from having an over weight problem and leave him anotomacially correct.

i think spaying/neutering is right , there are too many unwanted pets being euthanized everyday. Plus males have more aggression and many people cannot control them.

Take a look at all those websites where you can adopt a pet. They are full, full, full. So ,why litter?

Most vets prefer to spay/neuter at 6 months of age, although it can be different from clinic to clinic. Shelters will often spay/neuter younger to ensure that it is infact being done, but it is in the best interest of the pet to wait.

I think its also important to emphasize for people who for whatever reason have not had their pet spayed at a young age that it can be done at any time. It might take a little longer for an older dog to heal from an incision, but the extra time is well worth the added years!

I did not see what age a dog should be before you have neuter surgery or sprayed. Let me
know.

A puppy should be spayed or neutered at about 5 months old. They should have all or most of their adult teeth. However, my boss won't do a spay or neuter if the dog will grow some more. Especially if the dog/puppy is growing quickly. We don't do it because of the risk of a suture breaking

I think that getting your dog spayed or neutered is extremely important. Every dog I get gets spayed/neutered. It helps cut down the puppy population, which means less dogs in shelters.

Thanks for all the technical information about what spaying/neutering is all about; however, there is NO mention of WHEN, as in at what age is best. The article was titled "When to..."
