Patricia Dunkirk, MD 11/30/2010 9:48:08 PM first of all visit the vet with your dog so the vet can observe what needs to be done. Put the dog on good diet food, one the vet has approved and follow the vets advice as to how much and how often the feedings will be. No treats or goodies. Strict adherence to the diet and be sure to exercise together every day. Your canine friend will know you love her/him and will live a long and happy life.
Patricia Dunkirk, MD 11/30/2010 9:28:06 PM My dog is overweight and I am very worried. On our visit to the vet she gave me a good diet food, the amount of feedings per day and I will also exercise a bit more. Although we walk every day now that Im retired (registered nurse),my chessie got fat. We are now on the road to recovery and getting her down to 100lbs with the help and support of our veternarian. We are their guardians and we need to do the best for them.

Katy Portland, OR 2/25/2009 11:17:03 AM Hydrotherapy helped my dog lose weight without putting strain on her hips (4yr old GSDxCollie with severe arthritis & hip dysplasia). Previously I had to restrict her walking/playing/chasing due to her arthritis. The hydrotherapy somehow built up the muscles and now she can play & chase again without getting lame.
Krystal Mylan, MI 11/2/2007 3:39:00 AM I have always believed that weight loss could happen with excercise.
