my vet suggested to give my dog morning and evening 1 Benadryl. Also when we come back from our walk, i have a spray bottle 50/50 white vinegar and water and spray their
paws.
It helps greatly. If I see from the lick on top of front paw black hardened spot, I ask my vet for an antibiotic. It removes the infection. The black harden spot disappears and the white hair appears back.

My Lhasa Apso started paw licking several months ago and vet didn't really know what the problem was...then I read an article that too high protein in diet can cause "hot spots" and cause itchy irritation unless all the protein is burned up throughout the day. We have him on a high protein non-grain fish dry feed AND was giving him plenty of lean animal protein at dinner time. When I eliminated the animal protein in evening, the itchiness reduced sibstantially. The vet had also told me to keep his paws dry...so I found a natural foot powder by Nutrabiotics that is unscented and sprinkle that on his paws and body to reduce moisture. It has corn starch, grapefruitseed extract and small amount of tea tree oil in it. Everything seems to be working well...I think too much protein may have been the problem.

I have a 3 1/2year old French Bulldog and this past year we've had a huge problem with him scratching his lower back on anything he can get under (the bedsprings under our bed, the brake pedal in the car)to the point where he's bloody and bald, he'll also sit & spin on his butt as long as you allow him to, which I don't. He can't be left alone one second or he tries to scratch himself bloody. It's horribly stressful to deal with and watch when the poor guy can't help wanting to satisfy that itch. We've done the Frontline treatments, oatmeal baths, brushing everytime he comes from outside...HELP!! He doesn't have much skin on his nether-regions left so PLEASE PLEASE HELP!!

My 4 yr old lab has bulbous swellings between his toes. Biopsy revealed "allergy." The Vet Rx'd Cephalexin and anti allergy pet food. It went away for two months. There is 1 foot of snow on the ground and the infection/allergy is back. His paw pads are pink on the edges. I have been at the end of my leash about this--his, too!
