Judy Lubbock, TX 1/27/2011 11:58:04 AM AKC sell pre-registered chips that can be read by any Vet or any shelter. Remember, to register your dog with the microchip company or you will have wasted your time and money having your pet microchiped! Don't forget to update your info if you move or change the dog's ownership too.
lizzie Polson, MT 11/15/2010 4:57:59 AM just won't eat and micro chip the dogs. just kidding; but, people should be aware up front of how much your dog's care costs
Donald Louisville, KY 5/19/2010 9:42:08 PM The first system that is helping to find owner's of lost dogs. The Vet has a controling clog in making the system work. The new larger copntroled area sounds great. Ifeel the articale is ok.
rai gainsville, FL 5/11/2010 5:12:00 PM i dont think this is right. its just big-business and government conspiring to get into our pocket. I want to disable the chip. how do you do that while it is in the animal?
Karen Saint Louis, MO 5/9/2010 7:21:13 PM I have seen a young dog with a tumor form around the chip - I will not have an animal chipped because of this
Jazzmatazz Orlando, FL 4/19/2010 4:40:59 PM When I get a dog, I'm worried that it might run away and no one will see if it's microchipped.... and I simply cannot get a GPS! Far too expensive... I'm just going to keep it healthy and all that so it won;t have a reason to leave. And if it does have one, I'll make sure that the fence is secure... ;-)
Terry Kansas city, MO 3/27/2010 5:34:32 PM I think microchips are great. It helps people that louse their animals to recover them. Also if the dog pound has them it give the animal a better chance of living.
Vanessa Hesperia, CA 12/30/2009 5:54:25 PM Micro-chipping doesn't work if the shelter that picks up the dog doesn't care. My dog was micro-chipped and registered in my name and the local shelter just gave her a new chip and adopted her out without EVER calling the chip company. They just flat out don't care, my dog even had a tag on that had her chip number.
Angela Rialto, CA 2/5/2009 9:55:45 AM If you take a dog to the pound and they can scan the chip for free. Then they will contact the owner. If the dog does not have a chip you can take the dog home and place ad in their found book the type of dog you found and markings. All the dogs I have found I have done the same and no one has ever claimed them. Our dog we got from a friend has a chip and if we go somewhere for a long time she tries to get out, but always waits for us at home. We just found her in someone's yard where she was matted and dirty. It is upsetting that they didn't even try to attempt to see if she belonged to anyone. Only way we knew where to find her is because we could hear her cries when we would call out to our other dog to get back inside. Dogs don't forget their loving owners. She is happy to be back home.
Jane New Orleans, LA 11/19/2008 8:18:52 AM I recently adopted a pet from a local shelter. The pet has a microchipped. When I called Homeagain to transfer the ownership of the pet, they said they could not because the owner has been looking for the pet. Had the shelter or the SPCA dropped the ball on finding the owner? Or had this pet been taken away from the owner? This pet is now in a loving home...I am not sure what to do?
Elaine Gardena, CA 7/24/2008 9:42:14 PM We recently found a Husky, thinking it might be chiped we contacted our vet. The charge for an office visit $47. to have the chip scanned. The local SPCA, if you take the dog to be scanned they keep the dog. I dont' know about you but I think the old fashion dog tag is the best. We are not going to spend $47 nor are we giving this beautiful animal to the SPCA, to be put to sleep if no one claims him. So, we place a found ad, and if no one answers the ad, we find him a good home.
Anna Maple Grove, MN 5/27/2008 11:43:57 AM Microchipping is a great idea! The only downside is that if someone finds your lost dog, it may not cross their mind that your dog may have a microchip. You can't really miss a tag though.
