My dog was 17. He was eating well. I brought him to the vet on By Sun morning, before he could go for hydrotherapy. The vet said his kidneys failed and the BUN was 70. He said my dog should have an IV. By sun morning, he passed on. The vet claimed that my dog was very weak, had heart problems and suffered a heart attack. They supposedly tried to resuscitate my dog twice but his heart gave up. Could you advise if there has been any lapses while they were treating my dog? After the IV, my dog was supposed to return home on sun evening but he passed on.

My baby has also been diagnosed with kidney failure. Within three days of eating a duck jerky from China he was the same way. @Monica the doctor gave him a week to live at Halloween and he has made it to Christmas. I have been administering IV fluids, amphojel (an antacid medication), K/D prescription diet and Ensure. Always keeping fresh water is important too. I think he is in his last week. I love him so much and will miss him horribly.

Hi,
My dog, Ganja Mon, died the same way. Your blog made me feel for you. I also have my baby's ashes in a box with a picture
frame.

Dear Monica -- my baby girl and my boy died the same way. Fluid entered their chest and they drool and I had to put them to sleep. I write this to ask you to try to become vegetarian as cows, chickens and pigs are like your baby ... they are animals with mom and dad. This message may be out of line but I only wish the best for you.

My 5 yr Pomeranian was attacked by kidney failure in a 4 week time frame. She was hospitalized for 4 days getting IV fluids & received frozen plasma. She showed some hopeful signs. I brought her home to follow-up w/ a holistic vet. She was maintaining a stable, yet high BUN & creatinine level. She started getting IV fluids at the vet daily.Rechecked her levels & they were holding. We backed off the IV fluids over a weekend to see how she would do. She started vomiting once an hour it seemed, over the weekend. Started giving her anti-nausea meds. They helped some, however she still wouldn’t eat. Monday, got her back to the vets to start back on aggressive IV fluids. Her little veins were almost blown. She would not eat, I had to force feel her food & Pedialite for several days prior & after the IV fluids started. This little girl had a huge appetite prior to all of this happening. Within 48hrs, she became weak, a lifeless pup and her BUN & creatinine levels were up. Her little head just wobbled like a doll. She had no energy to even move. I tried EVERYTHING I could, yet I felt like I was running against a time clock to pull her through. I was with her all hours of the day and night nursing her to health. This past Tuesday morning, she was scheduled to go back to the VET for another round of IV fluids. I knew that something more was wrong. Her breathing had changed during the night; she had a crackling sound in her chest & massive drool coming from her mouth. She wouldn’t even try to swallow. My vet confirmed my fears. My baby girl was fading away fast. Fluid had entered into her lungs. She was fighting to hang on for me. She would follow me with her eyes. I looked her in her eyes that morning. With tears in mine, I told her it was OK to go. Go have fun & play in heaven. I love you so much. She had tear roll out from her eye as if she knew what I was saying. I NEVER gave up on her. I tried everything I had available to me. She had hard time breathing. I asked our vet to help in letting her go in peace. I held her for 2 hours after she passed. Just loving on her & telling her how sorry I am this horrible disease won. I feel like I let her down. My family has a huge void. She was my baby & little best friend. 4 weeks ago, she was happy and playing. Today she is an angel. I pray more research is done to help find more treatments. It‘s believed her kidneys got toxins from popular chicken jerk treat made in China. Within 6 months, she had the treats & 3 days of Metacam. She had a good past medical history. I am waiting 4 the call when I can come & pick her ashes up. I want her home, with family to be in peace. I was worried that her soul & spirit wouldn’t pass over & was looking for me or didn’t know where to go. I visualize Jesus holding her. She had her tongue hanging out & wagging her tail in HIS arms. There were many animals all around them. It was such a peaceful feeling. I will always be her Mommy. R.I.P. Sweet one. Prissy - 10/6/06 ~ 3/6/12
