Courtney Baltimore, MD 1/16/2009 8:00:16 AM My doggie is very scared of thunder storms. I couldn't imagine how she would of reacted to Katrina. My heart goes out for the dog in this article. I agree with leaving the dog be. My dog hides during storms and we leave her alone until she's ready to come out. We don't force her. Good artile, thanks.
Pat St Louis, MO 8/3/2007 9:37:24 AM I agree. If the dog feels safe under the bed, leave him there. My dog is thunderstorm phobic (even though she didn't live through a Katrina-type disaster that I know of) and I tried just about everything to get her over it. Finally I realized that she was perfectly happy to go to her bed and stay there--she'll come out when she feels like the coast is clear. Admittedly she never tries to bite, but if a dog has found its own solution and the solution isn't hurting anything, let it go.
