Renee Culver City, CA 7/10/2010 3:10:46 PM I am raising my second Golden. They are simply THE best of dogdom! Yes, it takes a couple of years for them to calm down, but once they get the hang of your desires (through training and reinforcement at home), they just do not know how to disappoint their human "parents". Both of mine are somewhat recalcitrant when it comes to vet visits or when they see the brush come out. Otherwise, I simply adore these dogs and highly recommend them. Perhaps not the best idea for first time dog parents.
Andrea Germantown, MD 5/9/2010 4:17:37 PM i got a new G-retriever puppy, Bear, and he is just the best dog ever. he is soo smart, and loves to stand on his hind legs and hug my leg, hence his name. they are the best dog ever, even though he is a ball of energy he is easy to train and sleeps like a baby at night. Best. Dog. EVER!!!! and to Bonnie from Bear Island Lake, yes, the golden retriever sounds PERFECT. try getting an adult, though, since they are usually calmer and will not be hurt by children :)
Joy Goldenville, PA 2/8/2010 3:02:45 PM My Golden's registered name is (my last name)'s Pure Joy- and she is!!! Crazy outside, calm inside, always ready for play and/or cuddles. She's a bit skittish with falling objects, though, and she retrieves, but won't give it up. Typical?
Keli San Jacinto, CA 1/6/2010 11:54:31 AM I am owned by Goldens. And can not imagine another breed. I have nieces and nephews ranging from months to 8 yrs. And I don't have to worry about neither. My goldens are the BEST and the kids respect them as well.
Bonnie Bear Island Lake,, MN 2/1/2009 9:47:09 AM My Husband and I are thinking of getting a Golden Retriever. We live in Northeastern MN., at a beautiful lake. Here, a dog of our choice could run and play in the outdoors with few boundaries. My Husband is retired, would love a pet, one that he could be outside with. I work full time, but would really enjoy an indoor dog. The Golden Retiever would fit both our wishes. We have grandchildren that visit, both families also have a dog, a Bulldog and a Beagle. They are used to treating a pet with respect, but do love to play with dogs. Question to anyone out there, does a Golden appear right for us?
Arleen Stroudsburg, PA 5/31/2008 12:44:44 PM I totally agree with all that's said-I couldn't have asked for better companions over the years (we've provided homes to 8 different goldens on occasions) and they've all given us great and happy memories. Wouldn't have it any other way, especially with children.
Lynnemarie Pittsfield Township, MI 10/21/2007 12:30:19 PM Our golden retriever is the best dog I ever had. He is just like you say. He loves to please and loves people. He will go sleep with a soft toy in his mouth or right under his chin. He is awesome.
martha Richmond, VA 2/12/2007 6:05:48 AM good article--reminds me of the realities of owning a floor-covering sweet natured heart of gold, canine variety. No mention of frequent incidence of cancer which has broken many golden ret.s' owners hearts.
