Selenia Atlanta, GA 9/4/2010 5:37:31 AM My Lhasa Apso Benji is essential part of my life for 11 years. He is very good Lapsa. I have his hair short because he is uncomfortable in long. Anyway,in winter I never grooming but I spent time to brush and tickle (ha). I love like my child if one day ( I know will be) he is not around my, I don't know I will do.
Winn Portland, OR 4/7/2010 10:55:48 AM 2 yrs ago I adopted Mitten, a Lasha Apso. She was dingy gray with head & tale meeting the ground. When I first saw her in the dog pound, she jumped and carvoted and made anxious noises. She also had an ear infection. During the first several months I learned that she was fully trained (potty, leash, car, house, etc.). She is a wonderful watch dog, however, people walking down the block are taken aback as she escorts them to the end of the block, barking the whole way. She admonishes me if I raise my voice at the cats (they get on the counter), and talks when she needs to go outside or for a walk. She is spoiled - begs for tummy rubs, loves to have her coat brushed, hates ear washing & medicine, loves the beach and is great with my 2 cats. One of which takes naps cuddled up with her and gets her face washed by Mitten. She quickly developed my daily schedule & enjoys an occasional day at the doggy day care. She is silver in color and when bathed simply glows & glistens like polished silver. She has brought a lot of love into my life & I can't believe how lucky I was to find this highly trained & loving dog.
Sonny Huntington Beach, CA 6/22/2009 12:07:21 PM I picked up a 2 year old Lhasa from the shelter a few months ago for my mother. My mother named her Lucy and she is just the most adorable dog ever. She stands up on her hind legs and begs when it's time to walk or when I am about to give her a treat. She was already potty trained. She loves people. When we bring her to the dog park, instead of going crazy with the other dogs, she goes up and says hi to all the owners. Sometimes she would just sit there next to them waiting for them to pet her. She loves belly rubs, and I was able to train her to come, sit and lay down. She only chews on her toys and doesn't bark at all unless she is around big dogs. I think she has a Napoleon complex. She is very picky with her food though. Also she is not very fond of big dogs. She barks intensely when they are around.
Tammy Gary, IN 5/27/2009 5:03:01 PM this article seems accurate. I find my lhasa Apso stubborn (stomps his foot when he wants me to do something for him). protective (warns us of anyone approaching the house), friendly to all of our friends and family (runs from abusive children: has never hurt a soul) only chews his own toys (took about a year and 1/2 to achieve that). speaks (says "out" when he wants to go outside, sighs and whines when he does not get his way) lays on our sofa when we are not home (warm indentions on the sofa when we return). I think the breed is easily spoiled.

Rose Mobile, AL 8/19/2008 10:20:04 AM We adopted our Lasa 13 years ago from SPCA. She had been abused and as a result did not trust men. When we went to pick her up, she walked over to my husband and put both legs on his lap--love at first sight. She was a dream dog. She developed melanoma in her mouth, under went surgery but the cancer returned. When it was obvious she was suffering, we had to put her to sleep. The entire neighborhood grieved with us.
Kimberly Austin Warrensville Hts., OH 8/12/2008 7:12:48 AM I have a 7 week old Lhasa Apso that is black with white, we named him Pepper (like cracked pepper with specks of white) The dog has become part of our family in one week and has been patient, quiet and mannerable. I've read they can be stubborn and he is when he does not want to walk. We love "Pep" terribly, he is great for my two boys 8 and 12, so far very low maintenance.
Amy Middletown, CT 8/7/2008 2:00:39 PM Hi. My husband and I adopted a lasa Apso last year and he (Murphy) is very much the social butterfly as the article says about Lasas. We love him a lot and he gets along great with kids and our other dog cyraneau!
Carol Blackstone, MA 7/10/2008 4:27:08 AM Madison is definitely a unique lhasa. She is very low maintenance and doesn't bark or yip. She will bark when there is someone around the house outside otherwise, she is pretty quiet and great with kids. Crazy about Maddie
Kathy Staten Island, NH 6/26/2008 2:06:29 PM We just lost our 15 year old Lhasa Apso, Muffin. She was a good, loving, affectionate and loyal dog. Beautiful and gentle as well. I can't say I agree with the comment about children. It implies that a Lhasa Apso will only do well with "well behaved" children. We have a 6 year old autistic son, and Muffin was wonderful with him and tolerated what most breed owners would probably consider "bad" behaviour. My son chased her and wrestled with her and occassionally pulled her hair and tail. It was as if Muffin knew that he loved her and meant no harm, he just didn't know better because of his problems. And yet she was affectionate and loving with him and often sought out his attention more than anyone else in the house. She was wonderful with both my children as babies also. She would lay on the bed over my bassinet and keep guard over the children until they woke up--no one was allowed in the room but me while they were sleeping. She never gave us a day of trouble and was never even sick. About a year ago she started showing signs of age, lost her vision and hearing and finally she lost all sense of who she was. Our Muffin left us in spirit about six months ago, but left her body behind for us to mourn, grieve and prepare to say goodbye. We miss her terribly, but I'll never have another Lhasa because from everything I've ever read, she was one of kind for the breed. Good luck to all Lhasa owners. Treat your dog with love, kindness, affection and respect and they'll give you years and years of all the same and more. PS--we kept her short and she was adorable!
Michelle Pittsburgh, PA 7/25/2007 7:11:08 PM I love my Lhasa Apso "Chanel" like a four legged child. She is everything the profile tells us. Best to wait until two leg children are older(8 years)and up in the home. They respond very well to praise, respect is a must. They get their feelings hurt easily. I never hit Chanel, I use voice inflection (raise my voice when nessary with tone) and she responds to me very well. She is truly my angel from heaven. You must all be very loving and patient, if not move on to another breed please. Last thought: they are great travel companions in the car. Enjoy the joy and love of having a dog. Good luck.
