My Beagle Mix seems to bark for a lot more reasons than what you give! He barks at the least sound, at the birds flying above, etc. He barks at everything!

well, my jack russell does all the normal barking, but she also has acquired other styles as well. she does a high pitch bark when she wants me to play with her, like throw her ball. if she wants me to get up in the morning. she almost does a whisper bark.she always has a yawn after that one. right now shes barking at me to throw her ball. that one hurts the ears. ours not hers. i can usually tell what she wants by the different kinds of barks she has.

Well written with good info but doesn't address my question of barking at neighbors or people/dogs going by. I imagine it's communication, maybe attention, possibly excitement or alerting but it's been difficult to extinguish and has gotten worse.
