It actually isn't so common for a dog to strain a muscle. A limp can be a serious sign to you that something is wrong, as often dogs don't yelp around in pain when something hurts them. Your vet is the only person qualified to tell you what's wrong with your animal, and as a pet owner you have the obligation to get your pet checked out ASAP.

In our case, a limp for my husky meant hip dysplasia, a mild case, but dysplasia nonetheless. We took immediate action and to this day we still maintain a somewhat high level of activity and low pain for my dog. I give him nutritional supplements that promote healthy joints, and we also use the Ortocanis dog hip brace to help give him that extra support he needs. It also works to improve circulation in the area, keeping the hips warmer and reducing pain. I always use it when we go for longer walks, and sometimes on colder days or whenever I notice extra

The Ortocanis online store makes great products for disabled dogs, I looked pretty heavily into the different options before deciding to buy from them and there's was the best I found, based on price/quality/positive reviews.

I have an Irish Setter Male appx 6 to 7 yrs old. I consulted the vet who suggested some medicine, he also said that it may be due to hard surface of our house. While he took tablets he was ok, but he is limping and does not want to go for long walks. Please suggest

I have a young husky puppy, approximatly 1 1/2 years old, he is a house dog most of the time, and he slipped out one night. I have a neighbor with another dog, he runs there when he gets away. So I called the neighbor, because they are quite far away... he said he wasn't home, and that he would be home in around 15 minutes. (He sounded drunk.) I waited... around 25 minutes later, my neighbor wasn't home yet... but my dog was pawing at the door, I opened it and I was happy to see my dog home! But when he entered, he was limping... this has happend before... but no this badly and not for this long.... what could it be? Any suggestions on how to help? I'm sure I will call a vet... I really feel bad! He whimpers every so often... and he can't jump up on the bed... D ; Please help!

My dachsund is 9 years old and he started limping 2 days ago on his hind legs. He was fine the days before and know he seems so helpless and can't walk. His legs started crossing and then he didn't even bother to continue walking he just drags his hind legs now and i don't know what to do. He seems so depressed and does not want to eat or drink anything at times. I don't know what is wrong and i don't want him to die. He is a family member and i don't want to see him go :(

My 4 month old puppy just started limping. She got one of her shots this morning, but I don't know if that has anything to do with it. I am pretty sure it is her front left leg, and I checked it and didn't see any thorns or cuts. WHAT DO I DO????

Get the leg X-rayed immediately. If there are no signs of arthritis, displaysia or joint problems severe enough to cause constant lameness, it could be a type of cancer and an ultrasound/biopsy/blood test should be performed immediately!!!

This is the problem I had with my golden, I had done everything absolutely possible to find out the cause of his limping, my vet then suggested I get an ultrasound of my dogs abdomen and limbs. Sure enough, he had disseminated histiocytic sarcoma. A rare agressive cancer, and it was too late to save him. He declined so rapidly, I had to put him down 9 days after I discovered he had the cancer. Cancer that did not even show up in his blood work. He was 10 years old, pure bred.

He showed absolutely no signs of being sick. He ran, played, ate and relieved himself regularly, breathed normally, no strange odors, discharge or behaviors. No weight loss, sores... Just limping for 11 months. I hope my experience can help at least one person. An ounce of prevention is worth a pund of cure!!
