durba2193 brisvegas, 10/1/2012 5:31:51 AM Hey i have a 2 year old Huskie that suffers from separation anxiety. He gets destructive when left home alone, paces back and forth up the yard and scratches on the doors and windows, as well as barks and weeps excessively. Ive tried several different methods to try and overcome his separation anxiety and i found this really helpful website that has lots of tips and info that worked for me. I recommend having a look www.dogseparationanxiety.com.au
Janet Lodi, CA 2/2/2011 9:08:10 PM This article seems to be more about separation anxiety than solving chewing problems!
Bernard Boyd Beaumont, TX 1/16/2011 2:45:41 PM He contantly eats wood and plastic but mostly he chews on wood handles, our deck trimmings, the side of our shed that was just built. When given toys or rawhide bones, he eats them in about 2 days and I am talking about one that is a foot long. What do you suggest that we give him?
Suzie Palm Bay, FL 6/17/2010 12:32:49 AM This did very little to give hints about chewing. Most of the discussion was related to separation anxiety and appropriate behavior, owner and dog when separated. I'd like to see more about the why's etc of chewing. i.e. age when most chewing stops... appropriate actions by pet owner , how to discipline, etc.
rosario cotulla, TX 5/9/2010 9:31:24 AM we have a two month old, she has plenty of toys and she is always happy to see you. But we have noticed that she will chew on her left hand. We're worried that she might actually draw blood. Is there anything we can do?
Cheryl Lakewood, WA 4/27/2010 7:37:05 PM This is how to stop your dog from chewing on things other then their toys. First invest in good quality chew treats and toys. The instant the dog begins to chew on your favorite shoes or coffee table put a treat chew toy in the their mouth. Do NOT use an old slipper or t-shirt this will only confuse them. This stopped our 5 month Olde Boston Bulldogge within 10-14 days. This also worked on other breeds we had; Chow Chow, Cocker Spaniel, Lab, Husky, and Fox Terrier. The key is to be persistent. Good Luck!
Better Dallas, TX 4/12/2010 10:42:26 AM Well this was useless. My dog will chew anything and everything except for her toys. She has destroyed clothing, remote controls, computer mouses, MP3 players, carpeting, etc. I am @ my wit's end with her and it is really starting to be a stress with our marriage. Husband is constantly defending her and making it sound like that it is *my fault that she is destructive.
Sherrie Mount Pearl, YT 3/24/2010 3:27:25 AM This is a good advice but disappointed that it doesn't give any hints on how to reduce chewing or stop it, or the biting..
Yolanda Berwyn, IL 2/17/2010 5:34:02 PM Miley is 5 months soon to be 6. She is left with her companion Miles which are both crated in their own crates, before they are left alone they both are fed and let out for their bathroom breaks and given treats before I leave the house. But when Miley is left out she has her own toys to play with but choose's to naw on the wall's or what ever furniture is in that area. How do I stop this from happening? why does she choose to tear up the walls instead of her toys? I have two corners where she has made holes and a table leg that is about to look like a tooth pic. need some help if possible.
Teresa Schertz, TX 1/11/2010 10:47:49 AM I would like to hear what others have to say about how they break their young dogs of chewing. I pop my dog on the nose and say no firmly. I then put him away for awhile in my room. I then give him his nylabone or rawhide and say this is for Barney. I do spoil him but I am training him as well. I am being persistent and started buying dog training books.
Paula Del City, OK 5/17/2009 8:21:21 PM have used some of the things you stated in the article. The puppy is not left alone, but with a 3 yr old dog, also. But the things she does, you would think that she is left alone. And the things she chews is mine.
Lindsey Lexington, SC 3/11/2008 2:08:05 PM How does that help the chewing problem when you are home and if you dont do this?
