mary, from battle creek, is a moron. maybe she'll feel differently when a driver, who can't turn the steering wheel properly because a dog is on his lap (something that i saw today), crashes into her and kills a member of her family. can i drive with a sheep or a goat on my lap, too? come on, people. anyone who doesn't think this law is a good idea doesn't have too many brain cells.

What people seem to 'forget' is that driver distraction is only part of the issue. It is hard to see how having a dog on the lap (or two, as I saw yesterday), especially if doing something else at the same time (dog on lap, phone in hand, as I saw this morning), does not interfere with the ability to handle emergency situations. And with the number of people engaging in distractive behaviors, these are NOT few and far between.

I think that this bill is long overdue. My heart sinks everytime I see a driver with a dog on their lap with its' head sticking out of the window. Our children (human) don't sit on our laps while we drive, why should our dogs.

They need to be be ticketing people and fining people for things a lot more important than someone having a dog in their lap while driving.

Please, if you value your dog, you need to know that this is unsafe for both of you and that an airbag is almost certain death for a small dog.

This is a great idea, as long as all other distractions (cell phones, etc.) are included as a violation as well.

Nice...they'll be ticketing people driving with their small dogs on their laps!...and in the meantime someone else crashes because they were busy texting a friend while driving.
