You didn't mention which of those trees and plants may be toxic to dogs. Off the top of my head, I know that clematis is.

Good advice. I would suggest that the first year you have your dog, notice where she likes to stomp and sit. Leave her paths open and plant around them or use the tough plants mentioned in this article. Also, we have a tendency to plant along the fenceline. Well, if you have a chainlink fence, Fluffy is going to be at the fence every five minutes checking out the bunnies and squirrels and visiting with the dog next door. You might want to leave a "run" back there with plantings at least two feet back from the fenceline...depending on the size of the dog.
