I just posted a comment about my new invention, the Original Doggie Fountain. I then went on to read all the other commments. Most had to do with "making sure pets had cold, fresh water."
Duh!!
If you have a pet that spends a lot of time out doors during the hot, humid summer months...you really need to visit my site at:
www.doggiefountain.com
I'm not asking you to buy anything. Just take a look at my dog, Boston, using his doggie fountain.

Even though it's currently very warm here in Larwill, Indiana...he has access to fresh, cold, clean, bacteria free, bug free, dirt and debris free
water...24/7
Visit the site, watch a couple of the videos. At the very least, it will make you laugh...and don't we all need a good laugh :)

What about dogs that are left at home all day, with only a bowl of water? My wife and I both work all day but my dog, Boston, has access to fresh, cold, clean, healthy water all day...and night long. He uses the Doggie Fountain. If your not familiar with this exciting new product, visit www.doggiefountain.com and watch the videos. You will not be disappointed. I am the inventor and the German Shepherd is my pet. A very healthy and happy pet.

great article. I live in Florida and it is hot and humid. These are all good tips and I try to only walk in the shade of our subdivision and early or late.

If it's hot for you,it's double hot for your dog.So keep your dog home in a cool house with fresh water. These article are great and gives a person alot to do for their love of their companion.

It's been terribly hot and dry this summer in Texas. I bring all 4 inside the house during the day, only letting them out for about 15 minutes at a tine, unless they bark to come back in. They have a kiddie pool, but even in the shade the water gets too warm to help. I can't leave them out to suffer in this heat.

This is a great article. Make sure to call the police if you see a dog in a car. This is just a inhumane as leaving a baby in a car.

Great advice, I have 3 dogs 2 Labs and my care dog a g/pyr. I work with the Pyr and this breed needs lots of water and cool temps. When we train we are out early in the moring, and I always take water with us. All of my dogs are from Animal Shelters.I would ask that all pet owners consider this option. Thanks for your time

Wow! I'm very surprised that a car can heat up that fast! I've been to grocery stores where they have signs about leaving pets in a car.I live in MN where it can be freezing cold in the winter (last winter it was about -15 degrees) but in the summer it can be VERY hot! Right away it was 98 degrees and we experienced what it was like to be in a hot car (our AC didn't work). We would never leave our golden retriever in a car alone on a hot day! Thanks for tips on how to cool your dog down. My golden gets taken on long walks and after she returns she's panting heavily. i tried ice packs but they didn't work on their own. Now i can hose her down! Thanks for the advice!

thank you for educating people about their pets in the summer time. I have seen dogs left in vans in the summer, even with the back open, the dogs were not safe. they were over-heated. I rescued two dogs from the heat one summer. They were left in the yard, all day and night in 90 plus degree wheather. NO food or water at times. Common sense is needed along with education.

Whenever I have to leave my dog in the car I make sure I park in shade that will still be there when I am finished and that my dog always wears a seat belt in the car so I can leave the windows completely down.

I have 2 shi Tsu's for about 5 years. Someone just gave me a shi tzu puppy, born in March. My other 2 are very jealouse and go after the puppy. What can you suggest to stop the dogs from hurting the puppy. I keep her caged during the day when I am at work.

It is sad about what happened to the dobies in the van, unfortunately a lot of times it's not that people don't think about it, it's not being well informed. I've always known that leaving your dog in a hot car was bad, but I didn't know how fast a car could heat up and just how dangerous it was, even with the windows cracked. I think the best we can do is try to educate others. I've had my dog overheat before while playing outside, I was so scared and we were very lucky that we cooled her down in time. We definitely keep a close eye on her now.

best common sense reminder I have read in a long time. Especially about the car. I find that is the one area people forgetmost often!

In the hot summer I keep plenty of ice on hand for both inside and outside water bowls. We take our pup into our cool basement during the hotest part of each day. If you use common sense you will never have a problem with your dog.

It is regretful that dog loving human beings can be so thoughtless about the care of our animals. I found the piece about the dogs left in the van very touching and I was riled by the fact. I did however reach out to my omnipresent yellow Labrador and gave him a resurring hug. Never will he have to undergo such irresponsible treatment.

Thank You for the life-saving information! I am saddened to know how ignorant actions, ever so swift, can lead to tragedy. The Dobbies are in Doggie Heaven now, always air-conditioned.

I found the information very useful I wish every pet owner would read it, but I also understand people who need their service animals, there has to be a way to keep them cool. I know they make a cooling mat for animals.
