Carly Vermilion, AB 1/2/2011 1:18:34 PM To Nicole with the chihuahua, this is very common with a dog that has a partially collapsed trachea. This can be fairly common in small breeds such as chihuahuas and occurs when there is a weakness in the cartilaginous rings if the trachea, and causes the dog to have difficulty breathing expecially when excited. Your veterinarian can tell you if this is the problem!
Sarah Dallas, TX 11/19/2010 3:18:19 PM To Nicole with the chi, mine does the same and the vet says that's common with the chi. Vet says to GENTLY pinch the tip of the nose a bit for a second or two to help the chi breathe through his/her mouth. Often that will get them to stop, but they'll most like do that again.

Thea Katy, TX 9/20/2010 4:16:12 PM My min pin is 11 years old and has diabetes which he takes isulin for. It is under control. The past few days he's been clearing his throat or coughing. Like it's dry or ichy. Can I give him honey to relieve the cough?
Judy Bishop, KY 6/17/2010 5:41:44 PM I have a 12 yr. old Sheltie. She began to have episodes of Horrible sounding cough & gag, only occassionaly. Then last 2 wks. ago she became very ill. I took her to her Vet., they did x-rays, found fluid build-up and enlarged heart. Rx Lasix and Vetmedin. She got lasix inj.@Vet. Is Back to her same vibrant self after 10 days, only able to get her to eat after a wk.of nausea. She is now on Pedigree canned Rice & Ground chicken.
Richard Nampa, ID 3/23/2010 8:25:57 AM We have a 12 year old pomp. He sits arournd and sorta coughs or wheezes. I sometimes think it's alergies and other time think it's just being nervous. It's worse at times. We've had him to the vet, with limited or no success. Any suggestions?
mayra atwater, CA 3/14/2010 9:42:01 PM i have three dogs, my oldest is about five years old and has been weezing and coughing really rough for about 3 months and it goes away after a minute or two, so i wasn't really concerned. But lately, my other 1 year old dog and 4 year old dog have caught on the weezing and coughing and i'm starting to worry.
JJ Pottstown, PA 3/13/2010 12:40:14 PM In this category or the vomiting category, there isn't any mention that these can also be a sign of a heart attack, separately or in combination when there have been no other signs. At least that is what I was told shortly after my pet died.
