In response to Jean, My dog Stormy was at the dog park about 3 weeks ago and did the same thing and she hops around. I took her to the vet and they want to do the surgery. But I have opted to not do it for the fact that the out come will be the same in the end. I am keeping her as quit as I can. She is on fish oil and glucosamine. She is 2 years old and is starting to put more weight on it. She also has to lose weight, by 3 pounds.

An update on our 6 year old black lab, Angel. When running at the dog park, she injured her left back leg. It was a Left cranial cruciate ligament rupure. Surgery was done. Left tibial plateau leveling osteotomy (TPLO) and Left meniscal release. She must also lose weight. Very costly surgery. Long period of recovery.

Our 6 year old Black Lab was running at the dog park. He stopped and turned quickly. Then he could not put weight on his left back leg. He is overweight, too.

I took my 1 1/2yr old mastiff to the vet 10 days ago when he spent the entire night crying. He was favoring his back left leg the night before I took him and wasn't sure why since it's gotten nice and warm here now ( he did this sometimes during the winter and I thought possibly arthritis). The vet checked him out completely before doing the X-rays to make sure nothing had popped out of place and such. I wanted to cry when I saw the X-rays. Before he told me I noticed there wasn't any sockets on either hip for his ball joints to go into. 2 of the vets there said it was the worse they had ever seen. He is now on pain management pills, rimadyl, twice a day for the rest of his life. Sure total hip replacements are an option but he'd still be on meds and would still be in pain so why put him through that? His condition has it rubbing bone on bone. If he was a small breed they could shave some of the bone to just have muscle in-between but it's not recommended for large breeds because of their weight. He is doing great on his meds and looks forward to getting them. I hope this can help someone else who's baby is having problems.

Hi my dog is 15yr old Alsatian. He is in a pretty good health, good digestion, eye sight and appetite But his hind legs are lame. We gave him medication for infection and kidney related problems but nothing improved. I'm guessing it is due to hip displasia. A month ago, if given a little support for this hind legs, he would walk but now, he is not even able to move his hind legs, they are pretty stiff. He sleeps on one side for the entire day and it is very sad to watch him like that. Now, he is even developing rashes because of lying on one side all day and he cann't even more to attend natural calls.

Is there any medication that can help him with his hind legs. I'm planning to get him a wheel chair. Please advise me what medications I can use or what kind of a wheel chair would be good for him. My vet thinks its because of age and can't think of anything that can help my dog

I have a white german sheppard, who at 7 months has starting limping, after four xrays and costs, vet says may be muscular so complete rest. Very worried may have missed something on xray, is this easy to do or should i put my faith in my vet.

I have an 8 y.o. female Labrador Ret. Lately she has been losing her balance and her back legs seems to collapse on her. She has a hard time getting up, especially on floor. She doesn't seem to be in pain, for we have another Lab and she likes to play with him, however, when he gets a little rough on her, she easily loses her balance and falls. What can cause this?

My 8 year old beagle has a torn ACL and dont know how much that surgery would cost, or how long it will take to heel.

what do you do when your dog gets a nail in it's paw and you can't get it to the vet. or you can't afford to take your dog to the vet.

One thing that we noticed that wasn't listed on here is hypothyroidism. Our dog Buckeye was acting very laid back and we took him to the vet where he was diagnosed with hypothyroidism. I hope you get that posted.

Have a dog diagnosed with heterotopic ossification. Did not see that condition

Is there a reason it is not listed?

this didn't help my toy poodle has problems with his knees. He is 7 months old the vet said he would have to have surgery at some point. He said my puppy is bow legged and his knews pop out of joint. the cartlegde pop's out or something like that. I would like to know more and when should I do something about his legs he gets around ok he runs and walks he jumps up but is alittle afraid to jump down he jumped off a small chair out side and landed on my porch on cement and howled like he hurt his leg we checked his leg and didn't find anything wrong. Minutes later he was running around again. But not jumping down much and only on carpet.
