I think what PA is doing is awesome. In my opinion I'd go a few steps further with the guidelines. This puppy mill thing has gotten way out of hand. Not only do these poor innocent creatures suffer, but us humans who purchase these ill-bred dogs suffer when found that your beloved pup is gravely ill with a disease that could've been prevented by more careful breeding

This bill provides what should be considered the "bare minimum" for dogs. I lost my respect for the AKC when I found out they fight bills like these cause they are afraid the bills will step on their toes.

It's long past due and none of it sounds unreasonable when considering what is best for the animals in these situations.

i definitely don't think the changes are going too far, in fact, i say its about time something is done about the puppy mills in Pennsyvania. Now i hope the other states take heed and do something about their puppy mills.

This is definitely a step in the right direction! I am lucky to be owned by a puppy mill survivor, and I tear up every time I think or talk about what he has been through. If the puppy mill owners want to make a buck or two from their dogs, the least they can do is give them appropriate vet care. I have already put over $1000 into my dogs vetting, all due to the fact that it was previously neglected! He no longer has any teeth due to the fact that he hadn't seen a vet!

They should go thourgh with this bill. i think puppy mills are unreasonable and they should band them but if they don't they should at least take care of the dogs they breed and give every dog they have a yearly check up that should be fair and i totally agree that they should not have wires on the bottom of cages because that can lead to the dogs paw possibly getting stuck. they should also not stack cages on top of eachother that is so wrong and serciosly do you see the huaman soceity stacking dog cages on top of eachother? My point is this bill is not going too far and hopefully it will go through an become my states law.

I hope more States follow with a similar bill! If you are going to make money off of these dogs, then you should have to treat them right. God forbid that a animal sports owner or breeder spend a litte more money on the quality and safety of their "product."

Puppy mills should be banned altogether..Not just "better regulated"

As far as dogs are concerned, NOTHING goes too far! There are plenty of dogs without homes now, why breed more?

it is going to far, i mean, in some places, they cant help it if the temp. is above 85 degrees or below 50 degrees, and tough luck if the floors are wire, better than a floor with sharp knives protrudding from below, and suck it up if there is not enough space, does it look like the shelter people care, no, they just want to make money, and maybe only 20 dogs can be in a shelter at one time if the cages are not stacked, which means more dogs euthanized, and those government-contracted shelters dont have enough money to be sending 600 or more dogs to the vet a year, and an outdoor run, really wont improve a dogs life in a shelter, just a better chance of it getting fleas or ticks

I think that this is a great bill, nothing seems out of line at all. I believe if you are going to breed dogs for money or sport, the dogs still deserve to have a good life. I would never buy from a breeder that did not give their dogs an annual vet check-up, had their dogs live in cages with wire flooring stacked on top of each other. If this bill were in Massachusetts, I would be voting yes.

I would certainly not want legitimate breeders to be hurt by any legislation, but something must be done about the deplorable conditions in puppy mills. I really don't see anything in this article that is unreasonable, just better standards of care that are much needed.
