charlee, my male dobie is 10 yrs.old except for joint problems he is in good shape for his age. He is soooooo!gentle, I can't believe how misunderstood they
are.
I had another male before I got Charlee, but he died when he was
7.
He had cancer in his left rear hip/leg area and the vet and I agreed it was better to put him to sleep rather than see such a proud dog on three legs, he also said the cancer was probably

in other parts of his body
also.
It broke my heart, happened on 3 days before mothers day on my birthday to
boot.
But, when I got my new baby dobe my heart started to mend.

Cisco was 13 when I put him down.... he had an accident with a car at 5 and in old age became arthritic and was in a lot of pain, then he went deaf.... a hard thing to do but it was best for him.. otherwise he was healthy. Zoe is 9 and is fine healthwise. Cisco at 13 passed for 2 or 3 on a couple of occasions Zoe is often mistaken for 2 or 3 to this day. Keep them healthy and I think you have over 13 years to enjoy them.

I have a doberman named Cobra and he is 13 and still very active and hunts moles and many other critters every day. He is very active and sweet as can be. I know his days are numbered but I cherish every one as if it is his last. I sold my house and moved 4 years ago and the people who bought our old house had 4 small children and only met Cobra a few times but offered me 20k extra if they could keep him. I laughed and told them 200k would not change my mind! Love my Cobra!!!

I just lost the best friend I ever have known, my girl ZIP. the most loving and loyal doberman that I have ever had, 13 years old, developed wobblers disease which was treatable but she begain to loose control of her rear legs, nerve damage. Hardest thing I ever had to do was to put her to sleep. I miss her every day.

We just lost our wonderful Doberman "Kataph" to enlarged heart (cardiomyopathy)at 8 1/2 years old. He developed the disease quickly and collapsed the week before Halloween. After a trip to the emergency room he was put on pills and seemed fine for 3 weeks. Our hearts broke when the coughing and difficulty breathing came back. On Monday morning 11/15 he could hardly move and it broke our heart to decide to end his suffering. They are such a noble breed. I miss him so much that my heart aches, but it was worth all the suffering I am going thru now. He was a great dog, companion and best friend and will be missed more than I can say.

I have 2 Doberman's. One is 8 and the other 9. They are both from the same parents. The 8 yr old is not well he has developed lumps over his body some are just under the skin and some are much deeper, one is attached to one of his rib bones. Also he has developed wobblers disease. From here I will let him live as long as he is not in pain. The 9 year old is still very healthy and very fit and full of energy. So my guess it depends on if the dog has any genetic health problems. Its a shame they don't live longer because there is no breed quite like the Doberman.

I just had to put my Doberman down. He was only 7 years old. He was diagnosed with osteosarcoma (bone cancer) in his right front let. I did some research and found out that it is not tha uncommon in large breed neutered male
dogs.
We miss him so much.

I've been breeding Doberman Pinschers for 37 years now my first lived to be 17 1/2 most lived above 14 years of age I truly believe it's all in how you care for them and their diet. I have always kept Charcoal capsules on hand if I even think one has a belly ache I give them a couple of Charcoal tablets to soothe their tummy's bloat is one of the leading killers of Doberman Pinschers I give all of my clients who buy my dog/puppies allot of information in their folders on what to have on hand bloat can kill a dog in nothing flat you might not make it to the Vet. I've never lost one to bloat my my brother did so I just don't chance it. It's better save than sorry and I've had plenty with belly aches and giving them that Charcoal has always worked for me as a Breeder

my doberman is 12.5 years. He is not well, but I want to keep him in my life as long as he is painfree and has some quality of life. I just wanted to see how long he should live. The article helped me, because I know he is living a full life for a Doberman.
