Nina Danville, CA 2/17/2009 1:15:25 PM Is the Vet tax still on the table? The proposed tax on alcohol has been taken off of the table, but the tax on veterinary services is still a probability? So the State of CA is taxing necessary health services, but unwilling to increase tax on unnecessary goods like alcohol. Could this have something to do with the Gov's paid resort/winery trip in Napa? Vintner lobbyists pay for a weekend in the wine country and they buy their way out of their product tax. Thought you could not be bought Arnold? I am both embarrassed and appalled that CA is trying to fix their budget woes on the backs of our family member's health. How can we let this happen?
Carol Artesia, CA 2/11/2009 8:58:29 AM This tax is so wrong and will deeply hurt not just the pocketbook but heart of so many. What about service animals or those who are the only company for some. I find myself angry that a state government choses to burden it's population further rather than simply manage spending effectively.
Angelica Pleasanton, CA 2/11/2009 7:04:55 AM Shame on the Governor! Are healthy pets to be a luxury now? For the wealthy only? This will only cause more animal and human health problems. This is the worst idea I have ever heard - I can't believe we elected someone like him!
janet san diego, CA 2/11/2009 1:14:31 AM the people in the legislature should go with out paychecks until they get a balance budget. stop this stupid idea of taxing our pets and do your job that we voted you in if you can not do that then you need to be fired. pets are companions and for some that is all they have.
Victoria Pleasant Hill, CA 2/6/2009 4:49:07 PM It seems strange to single out the services of Vet in California. What would be next health and dental care, what about just plastic surgery. More and more people should be encouraged to take better care of their pets health instead of being dissuaded by increasing costs. I completely disagree that this is how the state of California should attempt to balance their budget. I would rather the Governor and Legislature ask the people of the State of California to hold off on getting their tax refunds. I would defer my tax refund to the following year, or perhaps even donate my tax refund if it would help the State balance the budget.
Patty Newport Beach, CA 2/2/2009 11:03:11 AM What is wrong with you people in the legislature. I think it is best that we sweep all the current legislators out onto the street and elect people who can use their brain for a change. I vote NO to the hairbrained idea.
Ronald Occidental, CA 1/30/2009 8:55:14 AM For us on fixed income(s) pets are becoming a luxury, so lets add more costs to it. C.C.C. , "workfare" & other such need implemention.
Nancy Northridge, CA 1/20/2009 4:05:36 PM I am absolutely opposed to this tax. It assumes pets are a luxury. Many people have only pets as their source of companionship. Vet bills are already exorbitant. Additionally, too many pets and owners have already been victims of the bad economic times.
Shirley Catheys Valley, CA 1/1/2009 7:08:37 PM How much more are we suppose to pay to keep our Arnie happy? He doesn't have to worry with his millions. Some people are already going without food and their own medication just to keep their pets. Every time some politican can't meet his budget they tax us more. I say recall Arnie, he didn't keep any of his promises and now he just wants to add another tax on already overtaxed people. Maybe we should all ask for a bailout just to feed and take care of our pets. Seems like only the rich get richer. Adding a tax on vet care will only result in more abandoned or negelected animals since their owners won't be able to afford medical care for them. Shame on you Mr. Govenor, I thought you might be better than Davis, guess I was wrong. Sorry I voted for you.
Maureen Washington, DC 12/2/2008 4:19:02 AM I think that taxing veterinary services is the absolute wrong way to go. Taxes would prevent people from fostering dogs (who put all of their own money into the care of the dog) and adopting them as well. If veterinary costs were raised, breeders would charge more for their dogs, people would not be able to afford them, sending small breeding businesses into financial trouble, which ultimately leads to their families losing income, and giving up their businesses which would mean more homeless animals. More homeless animals puts pressure on local shelters and animal rescues. Etc........ IT WOULD BE TERRIBLE! I love my dog. The economy is doing terribly.... many people do not even pay for medical insurance for themselves.... it has never been taxed before. If you are going to tax veterinary services- then why not human medical services? SEE? That sounds crazy. That is because it is.
Gio San Francisco, CA 11/25/2008 2:41:28 PM Maybe, Arnie should pay back the 80 million dollars to California for his special election that he failed to pass. (By a landslide, I might add). Why was he voted in? Gray Davis should have stayed!
Colletti Citrus Heights, CA 11/22/2008 4:58:03 PM I know this may sound redundant but how about the State Lawmakers take a pay cut or even cancel their own raises- being that they can't even do their job (i.e budget) How about the Government spending less? Do these Politicians have their heads so far wedged somewhere that even the most practical answers to the budget shortfalls seem unapparent to them? What world do they live in? What happened to Public Service? How much friggin money do they need for a salary to not do what their job is? I know I am sounding and getting a bit hysterical about this but it just alludes me the gall these people have that "run" our government. Great, good going Demos- more taxes on the people who pay your salaries. Enough is enough. Schwarzenegger: put the brakes on needless spending and stop trying to figure out how to stick us with the bill.
Joannie Sunnyvale, CA 11/20/2008 8:51:56 AM Maybe if the Governor and some of the other members of out states legislators took a cut in pay it might help. We have to pay taxes on everything else in California now its our Animals care. Tell the Governor where he can put this ideal.
Cheryl Conway, MO 11/18/2008 5:46:22 PM I just don't understand what they do with all of our tax money. It never goes where they say it will, so if I lived in CA, I would oppose it.
D Indy, IN 11/18/2008 7:30:54 AM Really, I'm surprised it's not already taxed---everywhere. Our gov. wanted to tax all food.
