I'm a proud owner of a "pit bull" breed dog. He's the biggest baby and loves kids. Any dog can bite and harm people and other dogs. I have owned many larger breed dogs and all have been outstanding loyal dogs. If the proper reaserch is done people can see that the most "harmful" dogs have the best temperment and are actually better to have around children. As for police dogs there should be no exceptions if a dog harms a person reguardless of its job it should be considered vicious. People need to understand that if a dog "snaps" or is "vicious" its because of the owner and/or the environment and how its raised. Any type of dog can be a good, loving and loyal family dog. I'll say this...I LOVE MY AMERICAN STAFFORDSHIRE BULL TERRIER!!!

As for the Pit who killed Jessica's small dog, she said "The owner just stood there and
This is another example of irresponsible people giving a bad name to the
We need to enforce leash laws, and harsher punishments towards ALL breeds, not just "vicious" breeds.

Pits make a wonderful pet when trained and treated fairly.

I Hope This Bill Passes. I've tried finding information online about it, but it appears to be sitting in the House. Please contact your legislator and tell him or her that you want them to keep pushing this bill. It's unconstitutional to prevent due process, and wrong to single out specific breeds, when all dogs are capable of hurting someone.

This law should be passed. It is ridiculous to make a blanket statement that says all dogs of a certain breed are vicous. I've had experience with Pit Bulls and even one that was used for fighting. He showed up on my doorstep covered with cuts ,burns ,bites, and rashes all over him but he was still so friendly! My dogs ( not Pits) barked and growled and acted foolish towards him but he seemed not to even notice them. All he wanted was for me to pet him and have him in my lap and play with a sqeaky toy. The ONLY reason I didn't keep him was the unfortunate fact that he had not been raised with cats and did not get along with them. I gave him to a no-kill rescue group with the suggestion that he go to a VERY affectionate home.

I had a 3lb chihuahua. I was walking her on public property two days ago.A pitt bull dog with no tags or registration came off her yard and brutally killed my dog.My dog was on a lease registard UTD on all shot and records. The owner just stood there and watched. I called police and dog warden for the county. They did nothing. Not even a ticket. The owner did not yell "attack" to the pitt. My dog was 6 yrs old and very sweet that pitt had killed 2 other small dogs that week. why was nothing done? Why was that dog not taken into custody? what are my options other than filling civil case against the owner?

This law needs to be passed. There are tons of pit bulls that are being killed only because of their breed. This includes my dog who was only half pit bull. He was friendly, happy, and playful. He was in no way a "vicious" animal. The warden came and took him away and killed him because of the county no pits- shelter law. The way a dog acts is directly related to the way the owner treats and disaplines not just its breed.

The ignorance of people is unbelievable to me. This law takes the
completely out of the equation, which should not be the case.
the behavior of a dog is reflective of the owner and the way
chose to raise that animal. We, as people are rational beings,
make deliberate decisions to own a pet, therefore, we are the
responsible. Responsible owners should not be punished by not
allowed to own this breed, which, with a little love and lots
discipline, can easily be raised to be extremely friendly to
humans and other animals. Aggression in these dogs is a result
people training them to be that way. The real issue is
dog owners and those who raise these amazing animals to
illegally. Banning an entire breed due to other peoples'
is ineffective and in fact, it perpetuates the awful stigma
to this breed, because criminals will continue to own and fight
whether there is legislation in place or not.

I think its great that they are taking "pit bulls" out of the bill. Not all of them are bad, most of them are great family pets.

This is great!! Pit bulls are extremally sweet dogs it is the owners that make them 'vicous'. I have never met a mean pitbull in person. They have all been sweet and the damage they might do is lick you to death!! But even that is way meaner than pit bulls.

I'm so excited to hear about this! Pit Bulls are only "vicious" dogs because they were trained to be. It's really unfair that people blame the dogs when really it's our fault that pit bulls are the way that they are.

Thats great because most of the mean dogs i've seen (I work at Petco) are small. The only dog that has ever bitten me is a cocker mix. If they are going target one breed they should target them all which will never happen.

That is a good idea. Most Pit Bulls are only vicious when taught to be. My step-uncle has one and she is very friendly and calm. It really depends on the dog's personality not the breed.
