Brian Grand Rapids, MI 6/23/2010 1:28:52 PM Do get the distemper vaccine. I didn't know the importance of it, had only enough money to get Rabies shots, the vets office only asked if I was getting it. I figured if it wasn't required for the license it must not be too important. Had I known otherwise I would have borrowed enough money to have it done. Now my dog has Parvovirus, which is included in the vaccine and very dangerous. He's hospitalized after three days of acting sick and not eating. My other dog, who had the vaccine before I adopted him four years ago, only has a loss of appetite but no symptoms of sickness.
J.T. Phoenix, AZ 9/1/2009 10:19:45 AM Pet owners need to remember that their dogs could come into contact with another dog who has distemper (even though the sick dog doesn't show symptoms yet). Most people have their dogs around other dogs or have them where other dogs have been (such as walking around the block). To me, I'd rather be safe than sorry and have my dogs vaccinated for distemper every year.
D Indy, IN 9/1/2009 6:27:37 AM I wish these experts would decide whether or not you should vaccinate and how often. I'm so sick of hearing opposing stories.
Maggie lancaster, PA 9/1/2009 4:24:11 AM They comply, but how frequently? Its being proven that annual vaccination is not necessary. It also may be harmful to the dogs health. You can't trust your vet to be following current protocals. As an owner/caretaker you need to educate yourself in order to best be an advocate for your dogs health.
