Sharon St.Charles, MO 4/5/2010 7:55:41 AM He is a scum bag. He knew right from wrong. How anyone can do that to a living thing is unforgiving. To bad he plays football at all. He should have to work as a laborer the rest of his life. I guess people with money can't think or make decisions.
Jackie Kensington, NH 1/3/2010 3:36:56 PM If he's in jail he can't help the dogs. That's part of his sentence. If he doesn't keep his end of the bargain, helping the dogs, then when he meets his maker, it will be determined what happens to him. In the mean time, the fact that his dogs were given a second chance is a very rare thing. That's one good thing, because now at least other fighting dogs have a chance. In the past, they were put down, no questions asked, no chance at all. Maybe some day he will have done enough good for enough dogs that, some how, it will make up for some of the evil he has done. Only he and God really know if he's truly sorry. If he's making money, then he can help the dogs, a catch 22. He won't make money in jail.
Tina yorba linda, CA 12/29/2009 2:39:22 PM To bad he did not have this view before all those poor animals were made to suffer so needlessly!!!!!!
I hate dog fighters! somewhere in, CA 12/10/2009 2:53:29 PM I think it's good Vick is trying to reach out to children and keep them from making the same mistake he did but I will never forgive/support him. It takes an evil "person" to choke, shoot, beat, and electrocute the life out of something. Vick said he was already wealthy so that means the only reason he fought dogs was for the pure joy he felt watching a living creature being torn apart. Some people may forgive him now but in the end he will not be forgiven.......
julia Fort Wayne, IN 12/10/2009 10:56:19 AM Some people believe they are God and will never forgive and there is nothing anyone but God can do about that. But for the real people real humans with real compassion. I forgave and I am glad to see him reaching out to kids that will listen to him. They are not listening to hateful people like you on this blog that think because you never hurt an animal you are a saint. Unforgiveness is a sin greater than what you are holding Mr. Vick accountable for. I wish him well with his message and his life.
Charles Somewherein, VA 12/10/2009 10:05:50 AM (Part II) Mainly three things: money, fame and being able to play the game of football. Although he has regained the latter the other two are not quite there for him (as they were before). He's bankrupt (-20 million in debt) and while some complain about him being able to make the 1.(whatever million) he is currently making...those creditors aren't complaining about him bringing in some income to pay off his debts. And perhaps the most important thing to touch upon is the loss of fame. Having loss this is his reason for being remorseful. He committed a crime that has caused so many to truly dislike him. That energy is probably the only thing that helps him to understand how bad his actions were. That is...the fact that so many are unwilling to forgive and won't easily let him back in their good graces. This speaks volumes to him. It would to any of us. We should stop looking for someone to weep publicly or be prescribed anti-depressant medication (because they just can't live with themselves) after doing wrong. Actors win Oscars for very convincingly portraying those emotions...and its all hot air. Let the wrongdoer's (Vick's) actions show how remorseful he is. If he is successful then we will truly know he's remorseful and has learned from his mistake and if he genuinely puts forth the effort to speak out against dogfighting then kudos. Lastly...please remember that forgiveness does not mean that a person's actions are tolerable and acceptable....It means that those who forgive have wisely chosen to 'let it go' Its hard to allow a wound to heal if you keep it open to fester....
Charles Somewherein, VA 12/10/2009 10:04:45 AM (Part I) When it comes to comments concerning Vick on any blog I tend to become a bit irrate as I read them. But the comments here are not so bad. This man did a horrible thing, but I believe redemption is an option for him (...for any of us). His voice stands the chance to be heard because of 'celebrity status' and animal rights activists should welcome any positive change he tries to bring about. If anyone were to know how wrong dogfighting is...it would be him at this point in time. Joe Smoe won't make much of an impression speaking out about dogfighting because even with his dogfighting conviction...he is still not known on a large scale. I've heard over and over again about Vick only being sorry that he was caught and that he is not remorseful. I work in law enforcement and know first hand that MOST people who get caught are initially so very sorry they were...just that, CAUGHT. And that's about it! The different scenarios of having done things differently to avoid getting caught run through their minds again and again...and those who bare no shame will tell you what they should have done to avoid getting caught. It may be surprising to some, but becoming remorseful doesn't work the way you would imagine. Most criminals need internal motivation to change their bad behavior. External factors such as incarceration are short term fixes. Especially if the person has no reason to change. Losing your freedom alone for a certain period of time does not necessarily change you. It can take much more. And Vick lost quite a bit.
Helen Hamilton, ON 12/9/2009 11:17:54 PM He should be made to congfess, in public, to ackowledge the pain he caused those creatures, to recognize of the suffering he caused. Also, I would like to see him nailed for the taxes he surely did not pay on his illegal earnings. His main concern is that he was caught? that a crimnal might be caught? that's the problem? He's not one I would allow anywhere near my children. He has learned nothing.
sjr Indianapolis, IN 12/9/2009 3:40:17 PM While I think anything that brings attention to animal abuse and how to prevent is great, I do not support Michael Vick. He would still be involved if not caught and I have yet to hear him express remorse or concern for the innocent animals he tortured and killed. His interviews and comments are all about him and how he was impacted. I believe most of his comments and even his invovlement in speaking out against dog fighting come from his high priced PR team. I believe Michael ConVick is a morally bankrupt individuals who just happens to be able to play football.
J Brooklyn, NY 12/9/2009 8:20:13 AM Excellent job my Michael Vick - He has continued to honor his word by sharing his experience with youth across America. I wish nothing but the best for him and his future and hope he keeps up the good work! He'll be starting next season for some team!
Kevin Wilmington, NC 12/9/2009 8:15:21 AM i am with everyone here, michael can help. he is an important asset to peta now. michael was lost, but now his found.....
Lou Atlanta, GA 12/9/2009 7:13:55 AM PETA and everyone else who keeps protesting must not be aware of these types of visits to school children that Michael Vick is doing. Were it not for his crimes against dogs, animal rights activists wouldn't have anyone with as much impact as Vick can have. People who aren't perfect but pick themselves up and educate others how to avoid their mistakes make the BEST role models.
ypayne Lithonia, GA 12/9/2009 4:43:10 AM I think its wonderful. What better voice to hear. His message to the kids is excellent and it goes beyond dog fighting. He is willing to answer their questions. He speaks frankly and they listen. Who can speak best? "Someone who has been there".
