I agree that it is irresponsible to bring home a pooch to a no-pooch-allowed apartment complex. I agree that walking a pooch daily will make it very easy to discover he is violating the
lease.

When in violation of a lease, he may be required to vacate and while still be required to pay rent through the end of the lease in a lump parting sum. I agree that he should move if he plans to bring a dog home to live with him. Dogs need a forever home and a forever care-giver.

This is another reason why dogs end up in shelters because of selfish and irresponsible people like your brother. You are going to school, you don't have the maturity to make a rational or reasonable decision evidenced by your insistence on breaking your lease which will inevitably leave the dog out in the cold. I believe it is cruel to saddle any dog or a Basenji with you who obviously won't do what is best for the dog.

I have a 5 year old Basenji. They are great dogs however, they are not friendly to strangers. The college student might consider both moving and getting insurance because this breed has no problem with biting anyone who invades their space. I always warn people when they even look at my dog..."she's not friendly" to be safe. They are also big hunters. In the past 5 months, my Basenji has caught and killed a squirrel, black bird and just last week, a beaver in our local river (and Basenjis HATE water). I hope everything works out for the college student but more for the sake of the dog involved. GOOD LUCK!

This tip of dog is not for you. this dog mite not bark but they still make alot of noise. Basenji's like too yodal which is worse than barking. I have friends who have been in this breed for more than 20 years. All sighthounds need a fenced in yard. Do not take them to dog parks, most poeple who have sighthounds have problems with other dogs that are too ruff with they'er dogs and ect. I am a sighthound person, I have been showing dogs and doing lure coursing for 8 years. The dog show world is very cut throat espcially if you are a junior handler. I have 3 whippets a greyhound and an afghan hound. I also show Basenji's. I do not recommend a sighthound for you, go to some dog shows and ask the owner's about the breed and how a dog like this would do in your situration.

bad idea. not fair for the dog if he gets caught and has to give the dog away. it would be traumatic for the dog to lose his home . GET A CAT!!!
