Wonderful article & very informative history of the dog. My parents never owned a dog, we had cats. At that time I never gave it a thought to have a dog. On the other hand-my husband grew up with a cocker spaniel. Needless to say- when our youngest child turned 6 he even surprised me one day and said" I picked out a cocker spaniel puppy from a litter. That was 1986 and we have had dogs since then. We have a Springer Spaniel Alex, & a Brittany/Pointer,Boomer. They are truly mans Best Friends. Always waiting for us when we are out with very waggly tails and happy barks.

I was one of those people who used to wonder how a human could allow their dog in the bed... I had no dogs until about 5 years ago when duke entered my life. He opened up an amazing dog world for me. He speaks english (I am convinced!) and we ended up adopting another dog through our local rescue (sshspets.org). I now sleep with two big dogs curleds up on either side of me. And I love it! Dogs rule!!!

Jake is that and more! I should know, he is my Granddog! (unfortunately, we live a world apart from him) - - so we have our own rescue dog or "Guardian Angel" - Molly. She is very low key, but always provides the most unconditional love. Don't know what we would have done without her over the past few years!

I can't imagine my life without Abby my labradoodle. She's my only friend. I have 5 brothers and no sisters so she's kinda like a sister to me. We fight, play, and spend every minute of the day together.

I work in a very emotional environment and when I get Home I am very tired. I open the door, and lo and behold this precious smiling face, licking me to death. My dog is my bright spot for the day. Be sides dogs treat their owners with more unconditional Love than most people.

The love of my life came from a rescue almost 5 years ago. She was very sick and almost died. Thank god she is still with me, she is so loving and we have so much fun with her, she is such a goof-ball. My life is more complete because she is in it. She is real LOVE.

My two Labradoodles, "Montecore" and "Morgan" are proof that GOD sends angels in many forms. They both are the loves of my life. Our dogs give us endless love and joy through the good times and the bad.

I have 2 collies, they are wonderfull. They can since when Iam upset, sad or happy. They know when I am sick. One of them even knew I had a lump in my breast long before I did. They dont judge me and when I have had the worst day I can come home and they make me feel so much better. All they ask for ( besides treats ) is brushing and to get there teeth brushed.life just isnt the same without some kind of animal. everyone should experiense the love of an animal at least once in there life.

I have lived alone as a single older adult for more than 10 years. In this time, I have always lived with 2 dogs, one male and one female. They love me as I am. I don't have to be fat or thin or a femme fatale. And they don't have to be anything other than what they are, which is wonderfully loving. I appreciate with the ancients having a dog that knows everything that goes on in the neighborhood. As long as I live, I want to live with dogs.
