I HAVE A LARGE FEMALE LAB,HER NAMAE IS ABBY. SHE IS NOT AGGRESSIVE TOWARDS PEOPLE. BUT WHEN I WALK HER, SHE CONSTANTLY PULLS TO WALK AHEAD OF ME I AM NOT IN CONTROL AND I WANT TO BE ,FOR HER BENEFIT AND MINE. SHE HAS BEEN TO A DOG TRAINER FOR SEVERAL MONTHS AND THERE WAS NO IMPROVEMENT IN HER ATTITUDE WHEN WALKED.

EVEN WHEN I PICKED HER UP, FROM THE TRAINER, SHE WAS STILL PULLING ON THE TRAINER AND ME. I WAS TOLD TO PUT AN AGGRESSIVE COLLAR ON HER, WHICH I DID, BUT THE ORIGINAL PROBLEM OF HER PULLING IS STILL APPARENT. I TRIED SOME OF THE METHODS I'VE SEEN ON THE DOG WHISPERER, BUT TO NO AVAIL. I WANT TO BE THE ALPHA ONE TO MY DOG AND HAVE A PLEASANT TIME WALKING ABBY. CAN YOU GIVE ME SOME TIPS TO TRY?

Good article. My dog needs to poop whenever we go walking & sometimes, more than once. Is there any way to avoid this & make her learn that she must do that only in her yard. I have a new e-mail address: ambrnme@embarqmail.com Pls. change my records. Thank you.

Great tips. Could you please write a column about retractable leashes. I think they are a major nuisance. It's hard to keep your own dog under control, when someone else's is running towards you unchecked on a retractable leash. We have a lot of problems with this in our neighborhood. My husband and I have three dogs, and each one has gone through obedience training 2-3 classes each. Thanks.
