Jenn International 3/23/2013 6:46:02 PM My Australian Labradoodle has a coat of wool. She doesn't shed as much as I do!
Jenny - 227338 Monticello, MN 2/25/2013 2:04:57 PM This is a great article but it doesn't change my mind about getting a cocker spaniel.
MichelleKTI718 Clark, NJ 2/18/2013 10:22:51 PM My Saluki sheds very little. I also have a Brittany and Beagle right now, and the 'luki is the only dog you can touch without getting covered in fur. ;)
DCWebEditor Irvine, California 12/10/2012 9:25:12 AM @Valerie - German Shepherds can shed quite a bit! They have double coats that shed and need to be brushed regularly.
DCWebEditor Irvine, California 12/10/2012 9:11:01 AM @Sarah @The Snow Dogs - as you stated and as stated in the article, there is no such thing as a completely non-shedding dog. Even humans "shed." Like humans, all dogs shed at least a little hair at one time or another. However there are dogs that shed little hair and tend to better for allergy sufferers (although it is different for everyone.) Some of these breeds do require more extensive grooming. Hard-coated terriers for example, such as the Cairn or Airedale need to be hand-stripped if kept in their natural coat, to remove the dead hair. While this article serves as a guide to low-shedding breeds, we encourage everyone to research and spend time with a dog or breed of dog before deciding if it is the right choice for your family.
Valerie San Francisco, California 12/8/2012 3:03:25 PM Um Does German Shepard's shed cause I really want one and my dad says it sheds
Sarah Albuquerque, New Mexico 12/7/2012 1:16:43 PM This article really upsets me because it is giving people false information and causes me to lose my trust in a site that is supposed to give people honest information on dog car. There is NO such thing as a non-shedding dog. Some dogs shed less, and some dogs hair types cause less dander to be affixed to the hair, but they STILL SHED. Shedding is a natural occurrence (even in short-haired and hairless dogs) that causes the dead hair to fall off, and allows new, healthy hair to grow in. If the dead hair does not fall off, it can lead to infection of the hair follicles and can lead to overall decay of the dog's coat. There is no naturally occurring dog breed that is a non-shedding. If there were, those dogs would have to be constantly groomed to get rid of the dead hair, thus more maintenance for the owner (and probably more expenses for grooming).
