Go online and check out the many reunions of dogs and their humans that return after a year or more from Iran or Iraq. I once had a Teacup Pomeranian and to our older Airedale, they were inseparable. From the day I brought that Pom home as an 8 week old puppy, the 3 year old Airedale, adopted the Pom. as her own pup. They slept together, played together for 5 years, until cancer forced us to put the Airedale down. We all grieved, but the Pom. stayed in seclusion, hid from us for 2 or 3 months, we did not see her at all, she must have come out to eat while we were at work, but it took her a long time to recover. When we got another Airedale a year later, the Pom refused to have anything to do with her. Never warmed up to any other Airedale we had after that. During the rest of her life, she lived to age 15, she only growled and snapped at the three other Airedales we had.
