animal Behavior college trains in this area also criminal justice classes and volunteering in shelters or for a vets office , all good places to start , and my advice to anyone in college or high school , Your age group is the number one age group to dump dogs in high kill shelters , please do not get a pet until you are done with school and are ready to settle down , unless you can comit to an animal for life they have no business with you until you can , please tell your friends and help us minimize the number of twenty somethings abandoning their dogs and cats in high kill shelters

I just graduated high school and I was wondering what is the first step to take to become an animal control officer? Do I need to go to college or what? Do I need to go talk to police officers or can someone help me out step by step. Email me. Thank you.

I'm a vet assistant have been for 11 years. I'm pretty much a tech just not certified but have on the job training. I'm 25 years old a former firefighter and soon to be EMT. I wad wondering if my years of experience as an assistant could help me get a job as an animal control officer. Also where and how I could do that? Can anyone help answer my question?

I am an Animal Control Officer in California. I am also a Registered Veterinary Technician. My recommendation for getting into this field is to gain experience with all types of species through volunteering for wildlife rehab groups, veterinary hospitals, and shelters. Also, it is very beneficial to pay and put yourself through the mandatory training for the career. Classes in Arrest, Search, and Seizure & Firearms Training along with State Humane Law Enforcement Academies will put you ahead in the hiring/recruitment process. Classes in Animal First Aid, Animal Behavior, and Animal Handling are also suggested.

I am 25 years old and have a bachlors in biology and a degree in wildlife conservation. I don't know much about what background you need for an animal control officer but I would suggest getting a job working in a pet store or volunteering at a local vet clinic or animal shelter. It is important to begin developing your skills of working with and handling various animals.

This was some really good information. I am only 15 and i found it very informitive. But i still don't know where you go to get the training. This is something i have wanted to do since i was 11 years old. this is something because of my love for animals. Not the money. It is not right the way that some people treat animals, they have feeling to. (just like humans) appreciate the information but if someone could tell me where you go to get the training that would be great.
